Is this attack on Venezuela by Trump illegal?

Capture of Madero, bombing of bases and the previous murder of individuals on small boats, possibly drug traffickers and the talk of opposition collusion with the US 🇺🇸.

What happens to international law if the biggest bully on the block ignores it?

People seem to think international law is an actual thing. There is no law where it's not enforceable and the people don't agree with it.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@BizSuitStacy It is fact. If you want to keep your eyes closed that is on you. Don't call me ignorant when you won't even look.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@BizSuitStacy International law is "a thing" and it is massively important. Without it, national sovereignty and fundamental human rights have absolutely no meaning. Those who continually undermine the treaties and pacts they have signed with other nations erode their national self-interest and the security of their people.

It's a really odd argument to say that a law has no standing because some people disagree with it and break it. On those grounds, am I at liberty to steal and infringe your property rights because the criminal code may be at odds with my ideals of social and economic equity?

You don't get to pick and choose the laws you obey. If you do, you are a criminal.

This brings us more than a century back to the era of Monroe. I wasnt happy about professed US isolationism, but this goes way to far in the opposite direction.

@sunsporter1649 Nice selfie. Too bad you forgot to include a picture of the CIA.

Individual states do not have the right to impose their laws on other states, that is the reason for the convention on international law which most states are obliged by as members of the United Nations. Is Trump going to take the USA out of the UN as well as NATO?
TexChik · F
@Ximenajacoba where was all of your International law when all those drugs were illegally flowing to the US? Maduro and his wife were wanted in the US and had outstanding warrants.
markinkansas · 61-69, M
not with out congress saying ok.. however when did trump ever ask for ok.. the U.N. says its wrong also
@markinkansas Demented Donnie’s DO(in)J is claiming it’s “fully legal according to the Law Of Armed Conflict”—a complete lie!

tRUMP’s incompetent lawyers showing off their complete ignorance of international, domestic, and military law. Once again committing the very violations of the LOAC cited in their own manual.
markinkansas · 61-69, M
@KunsanVeteran they know the law.. its just they are loyal to trump
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
It is highly illegal. Also very dangerous. Suddenly any world leader is at risk. So if China decides it doesn't like Netanyahu or Russia doesn't like Trump or Starmer or Mertz or ......

@hippyjoe1955 We all wonder why you so strongly support the flow of illegal narcotics worldwide
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@sunsporter1649 When you have some actual evidence of said drug trafficking get back to me. Your CIA talking points don't carry any weight anywhere else in the world.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
It is illegal to infringe another nation's sovereignty without a formal declaration of war. Heaven knows, Trump has spent enough time wittering on about illegal incursions of his own country's borders.

The efficacy of international law is eroded every time its signatories choose to disregard the rules.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl LOL, unless its barry big ears is dropping cruise missles like firecracker

It's legal in the US. Murder? Excuse me? Killing Narco Terrorists is the President’s duty because they are a lethal threat to America and has been approved by congress decades ago. This action was taken to bring the murderous narcoterrorist leader to justice for his crimes.
@TexChik Yep. The Trump administration has designated the Latin American cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
TexChik · F
@BizSuitStacy Russia and China had interests there.
WasEP · 51-55, M
Russias attack on Ukraine and invading Ukraine? I saw sure that was legal and not violating International law. People gonna hate just because it’s Trump.

Done
@WasEP Completely false.
idontcareok · 70-79, M
@WasEP people who just hate trump, can't understand that,
idontcareok · 70-79, M
it was all legal, trump did it, he got the bad guy, and that's it
idontcareok · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl i read on the news, they were being indicted or something like that
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@idontcareok but you don't care! Or do you?

This USA administration doesn’t believe they will be held accountable for international war crimes and other abuses and violations of numerous laws. However, they will be and many of them will receive the death penalty for the crimes, others will receive financial penalties and prison time.
BohoBabe · M
International law is kinda a joke. It's decided on by the countries with the most power. If Namibia violated international law, that would be a problem. But America pretty much sets the law.
BohoBabe · M
@KunsanVeteran It is true that America at least used to try to maintain some semblance of law. What Bush did was illegal, but he did it under the guise of looking legal. Whereas Trump, being controlled by Rubio and Miller, is just openly doing the illegal thing.
@BohoBabe Very true. Hard to see any way to really defuse this now. Another thing Demented Donnie has done away with are: skilled diplomats & statesmen…
BohoBabe · M
@KunsanVeteran It's also crazy that even Russia and Israel had to lie to justify their war crimes. Whereas Trump is just saying we want to take over and run Venezuela.
dale74 · M
International law found him guilty back in 2013 but has done nothing for the last 13 years
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@dale74 He has not been tried before an international court. He was indicted in 2020 by Trump's first administration, and this is the pre-text of his current arrest. But the "narco-terrorism" allegations come from Trump alone and are at odds with the relatively small amounts of cocaine produced in Venezuela.

Many other nations would like to hold Maduro to account for corrupting Venezuela's general election in 2024, but for some reason this is of less interest to Trump.
dale74 · M
@SunshineGirl different charges but he is guilty from 2013 for atrocities against the Venezuelan people from the international Court
MethDozer · M
@dale74
Wrong

No, Nicolás Maduro was not formally charged in 2013; he became President of Venezuela in 2013, but the major U.S. criminal charges for "narco-terrorism" and drug trafficking were filed much later, in March 2020, by the United States Department of Justice.

The primary charges against Maduro were announced by the United States Department of Justice in March 2020. These charges, including narco-terrorism, drug trafficking, and money laundering, were filed in U.S. federal court, not an international one. The U.S. government offered a reward for information leading to his arrest.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) did open a separate investigation into alleged crimes against humanity committed in Venezuela since at least February 2014, but this was a later development and is an ongoing investigation, not a conviction or a charge in 2013.
trollslayer · 46-50, M
100% in violation of international law.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@trollslayer LOL, barry big ears dropping cruise missles all over the middle east like firecrackers was not a violation, eh
trollslayer · 46-50, M
@sunsporter1649 that’s not the subject of this post.
YoMomma ·
No we have a right to stop drug smugglers who by their drugs killed millions of kids in america.. not to mention Madero is an illegitimate leader there so if anyone Madero was the bully and needed to be stopped just like the dictators in Iran and in Russia needs to be stopped already: people need to stop pissing their pants about stopping evil.. just the democrats hate trump stopping all their evil bs and want to whine about everything and throw shade
@YoMomma all you have to do is mention Trump, and leftists bark like trained seals.

@YoMomma Where is your proof that any of those boaters that Demented Donnie and Kegsbreath murdered had anything at all to do with drugs?

Speaking of illegitimate leaders” is pretty hypocritical considering January 6th, don’t you think?
Probably but who is going to stop the Orange Turd?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@aboveaverageaveragejoe according to SCOTUS, anything a president does that can be called part of his job, is legal, regardless of what it is!
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@samueltyler2 So impeach President Trump for removing from the picture a narco-terrorist and see what that gets you
