If All Illegal Aliens Are Deported, Who Will Pick The Crops?

We'll all starve to death. That's what the left says, at least. That, and it will all be Trump's fault.

No one on the left talks about the actual number of illegals picking crops. Nope. Only that the number is so massive, their deportation would spell our doom. So, is the number really millions and millions like the left says?

In 2023, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics said the number of Agriculture Workers was 782,400.

So, what is an "Agricultural Worker?"

Ah...a Farm Worker (those who picks crops) is a subset of Ag Worker...so the actual number is less than the 782K.

And let's not assume every farm worker is an illegal alien....that would be racist. Per NBC:

40%...it's probably less than 300K.

Are there illegals aliens working that don't get captured in the gov't numbers. Yep. Millions and millions? 🤡 🌎

Here's the USDA's farm worker data from 1950-2000. The trend supports the numbers above.

The number of farm workers has declined 67% over the last 75 years, thanks to improvements in farming machinery and technology.

You have 20-30 million illegal aliens in the US, and fewer than 300K are picking crops. Do the math. Deport.

They estimate that we now have about 20 million illegal immigrants living in this country. I think that's more than 300K.

Market Basket, a local grocery chain, employs a LOT of Spanish speaking workers to stock shelves. I assume they all have work visas.

We already have a legal framework for immigrants to come here as farmworkers. It’s called the H-2A visa. Farmers can legally bring in farmworkers through this program, which operates similarly to systems used in Europe. These workers are documented migrant farmworkers who are here legally. The same individuals who previously entered illegally, claiming they only wanted to work, now have the opportunity to return legally and work under this program.

As for the claim that some are suggesting Trump wants to "put Blacks back in the fields," let’s be clear: We know Black Americans, like White Americans, are too lazy to work in the fields. But here’s the reality: that laziness that Black Americans are bragging about, hasn’t worked in the Black community’s favor. It is the reason why the Hispanic population has grown so significantly in the U.S., compared to Blacks (Hispanics 20%, Blacks 14%), and why, on average, Hispanics now earn more than Blacks.
@Jokersswild Yep...funny thing about those work visas...it means the migrant worker is in the country lawfully. What a concept, right.

i think that's exploitative too. like "isn't this great all these people will work for $10 an hour picking crops what would we do without them". well. pay more than $10 an hour? charge more for tomatoes?
seems sus
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@Maya15 used to be several strawberry farms here, all handpicked, took 20-30 mexicans a week to pick one field.

then someone got smart, got a machine to pick them (only takes it half a day to harvest a field); handpicked farms simply couldn't compete

other farms started renting the machine from the guy to harvest their fields, now the local cost is cheaper.
Maya15 · F
@wildbill83 ya. as soon as the cost of using a machine was lower than the cost of labor they switched.
they use spreadsheets. they hire people to do this. use spreadsheets to figure out how to make money. they're called analysts. it's called business.

that's what i mean though. it seems kind of cruel to be like "oh we need people picking strawberries for $9 an hour so we don't have to pay slightly more for a machine. strawberries would be $0.12 more a pound" it's kind of exploiting vulnerable people.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@Maya15 they'd rather invest nothing, and stick to their old ways, even though it costs more in long run; many contractors around here are same way, using old worn out equipment that's constantly breaking down, trying to take on jobs that are more than they can handle; gotta invest in your business if you want to stay in business

customers notice too, they're more likely to do business with people that keep their business up to date

Oh but the big farm companies are so automated they need few hands on workers.

What's one to believe. Ask the small farmer how the big companies hurt them.

These are the stories before all immigrants arrived.

Suddenly there's going to be no one to grow our food.

How much 🐂💩 do they want us to believe.
@Gibbon You bring up a real issue with big ag destroying the family farming industry. The media won't discuss that.

@BizSuitStacy Isn't it interesting how the little guy doesn't fit the lefts agenda.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Wow thanks for doing the math!

I was just going by the fact that fruits and vegetables are readily available and not overly expensive to dismiss this nonsense.

The biggest detriment illegal immigrants are to this country is their abuse of the health care system. Many use the emergency room and now urgent care facilities which were built specifically for them as their personal doctors. California has been bankrupted by illegal alien free health care. Many illegals board planes and enter this country when they are just about to give birth so their anchor baby keeps them in U.S. Chain migration follows……
TexChik · F
Yep. The industries that would feel the pinch are restaurants (cooks and kitchen), bricklayers, roofers, tree trimmers...in
Texas anyway.

Trump just backtracked.

Trump admits his anti-immigration agenda is hurting farmers and hotels: ‘Taking very good workers away’
The president on Thursday owned up to the negative effects on the two mainstay US industries as federal agents raid workplaces across the country to carry out his orders

@therighttothink50 I read the article. I wouldn't say Trump has softened his stance at all.

The article, which was published yesterday, references quotes Trump made back in April.

@therighttothink50 this isn't new or a policy change. The Trump admin has supported self deportation with an option to return legally from the beginning, assuming no other outstanding crimes other than entering the country illegally.
ron122 · 41-45, M
I think all members of the democrat party should pitch in and get out there and pick that fruit.
4meAndyou · F
@ron122 I am sure Nancy Pelosi will volunteer to stomp the grapes...🤣🤣🤣
Haven’t seen dems this angry since slavery ended…
If the UK had to rely on Brits for crop-picking, we’d starve faster than a vegan at a hog roast!
@BrandNewMan We let in too many? No! We invite the right people, with skills, manners, and an appreciation of our hedgerow systems!
@AlanAPartridge Exactly .. a proper process
Jokersswild · 22-25
@AlanAPartridge The UK’s migrant farmworkers are documented under temp visas. That’s the difference. Trump isn’t trying to remove all migrants; he’s focused on removing undocumented workers. The U.S. has a legal pathway for farm labor (H-2A visas).
Amazing how the truth always presents a different picture than the left paints. No matter the subject, lies and fearmongering are their most consistent tactics.
how do those 300k support the 20 million on that wage?
@StygianKohlrabi By and large .. welfare and by supplementing their legal income with proceeds of criminal activity
@StygianKohlrabi our taxpayer dollars support the others...to the tune of about $200 billion a year.
