@MoveAlong Correct on both counts.

Trump showed who’s side he is on years ago when he said Putin was smart for massing his troops on the Ukraine border. Since then Trump has weakened Ukraine with propaganda and by cutting off military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Now he is saying he is mad at Putin - but I don’t buy it - I think he is still rooting for Russia. So I think he is still relevant in Putin’s eyes.
In a couple of weeks Trump will attend the G7 talks in Canada. And I bet he will once again show who’s side he is on - by claiming that Russia should be able to attend the talks again (Russia was kicked out of the talks years ago). Cheers!

However, he could (but probably won't) carry out his threat to increase sanctions and blockades. He will only do this, though, if he can gain financially personally, because Ukraine is of no consequence to him otherwise.

Technically as long as he's President, he's relevant. Sad but true.
But it's extremely nice to see that he's finally pulling his head out and actually might have the ability to learn still... what everyone else has known for over a decade, but finally maybe he's learning.

A few of tRump's peace promises
tRump, May 2023: “They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done — I’ll have that done in 24 hours.”
tRump, Sept 2024: “That is a war that’s dying to be settled. I will get it settled before I even become president,” Trump said during his September debate with then-Vice President Kamala Harris. “If I win, when I’m president-elect, and what I’ll do is I’ll speak to one, I’ll speak to the other. I’ll get them together.”
tRump, Mar 15, 2025: "Pretty good vibes coming out of Russia" ... "I feel that Russia is going to make a deal with us."
tRump tweet, Apr 24, 2025: "Vladimir, STOP!"

@MarmeeMarch This, too, is so insane it needs to be preserved for posterity🤣😂
And how did those "poor defenseless" Russian soldiers come in range of Ukrainian guns? They INVADED Ukraine!!! In tanks and trucks Russians invaded Ukraine!!
Once Russia had invaded, then Article 51 conditions, which you keep ignoring, where met, and Ukrainians are allowed to defend themselves.
No, the bombings of Ukrainian schools and hospitals and apartment blocks happened from afar. Russian tanks and trucks never got close enough to Kiev to receive fire from Kiev. The Russian bombing of civilian parts of Kiev was pure terrorism.
All you have is lies; very SAD!!
July 8 2024 Rescuers search through rubble of country’s largest children’s hospital, as Zelenskiy vows to retaliate
It was Zelenskyy that armed his non military citizens with machine guns and had them make gasoline firebombs to throw at Russian soldiers. Where in your article 51 does it say that private citizens are allowed to shoot at the enemy ? Answer - nowhere.
And now as far as schools and hospitals go - when you are being attacked from schools and hospitals by private citizens with machine guns - what do you think is going to happen when a Russian tank feels threatened by non - military personnel shooting at them ? Are they supposed to sit there and take it ? -
And you wonder why hospitals got attacked DUH ! Take a wild guess. That makes Zelenskyy a war criminal.

As the bombing of a children’s hospital in Kyiv was being condemned worldwide, Russian officials denied their country’s responsibility for the attack and even tried to shift blame to Ukraine and its Western backers.
Monday's strike on the Okhmatdyt hospital came amid a series of attacks across Ukraine that killed 43 people, including children, and injured nearly 200.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy strongly condemned the bombing and said Russia must be held accountable.
The U.N. Security Council held an emergency meeting Tuesday in connection with the attacks at the request of Kyiv’s allies.
Joyce Msuya, U.N. acting undersecretary for humanitarian affairs, told the council, “Intentionally directing attacks against a protected hospital is a war crime, and perpetrators must be held to account. ... These incidents are part of a deeply concerning pattern of systemic attacks harming health care and other civilian infrastructure across Ukraine.”

Has he only just learnt what's happening in Ukraine?
Odd that Putin - or some Putin aide - responded by accusinge Trump of something called "emotional overload", whatever that is.
Their exchange reads like a cross between USSR and SW.
Of course Donald Trump is "relevant", as the President of a major country; whether you support or oppose him.

Trump often makes no sense.
One minute, he ceases to supply arms to help Ukraine defend itself; the next, he's blaming Putin but doing nothing to stop the war.
He flip-flops on so many matters that I no longer expect anything unless it actually happens.
I think the results of his administration are likely to be cumulative and disastrous.

@MarkPaul I agree that a wider and longer perspective helps somewhat. Pol Pot, Mgabe, Tito, Mussolini, many dictators have been far worse.
However, humanity en mass has not sufficiently faced the tasks of reducing global warming, nor yet faced the realities of the costs of increasingly catastrophic weather events like droughts, fires and floods, not the diminishing insects, crop fertilisation, and food resources, and increasing species extinctions.
Although each of us can make a small and cumulative difference by creating an ecologically healthy lifestyle (and it takes drops to make an ocean,) this on its own is no longer enough.
On the larger scales, we need all of industry and all governments to coperate on building renewable systems and phasing out fossil fuels. And simultaneously we need to renew all the major forests and carbon sinks, and every other means available. For this, the whole world needs better leadership.

@hartfire That is certainly true, but as you know humans (like animals) are not very good at preventative maintenance whether it's their own teeth or other parts of their bodies and overall health, their automobiles, their homes, their relationships, and their mental well-being. They need a crisis to force them into action. And, then the human spirit fueled by self-survival does tend to kick in.
Even under the best leadership, the majority of people across multiple cultures are not going to sign-up for massive lifestyle changes based on inconvenience. Certainly, there are things that can be done with baby-steps, but the world is not going to embrace a Greta Thunberg scale of change... until that crisis actually hits. And as much damage we are doing to the planet now, that "crisis instinct" has not kicked in.
In the meantime, efforts and results are being made as restoring parts of the Amazon Rain Forest, limiting plastic in the oceans, and cleaning up toxic sites. It's definitely not enough, but it is something. And when dealing with self-serving humans... and animals that just might be the best we can hope for right now.
I remain optimistic.

He is your president and people obsess over him 24/7 that makes him very relevant
BohemianBabe · M
He actually makes it really obvi that he isn't in control anymore, even in his own admin. During his first time, he would speak in terms of what he's going to do. But now, because he's not in control anymore, he speaks in terms of having to ask his lawyers what he can do, having to ask this or that person what's going to happen. It's pretty clear that he's just a braindead puppet now being controlled by people like Stephen Miller and Elon Musk.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@BohemianBabe I think it should be like jury duty. You get a notice in the mail, congratulations you're a candidate for congress. Show up at the courthouse, fill out the forms and go on the campaign trail!
BohemianBabe · M
@GerOttman I do think we need less financial incentives, because then we get these career-ass politicians who just show up, collect a check, and die in office. That's one of the reasons I want to get money out of politics. And of course there are plenty of other reasons, like billionaires funding politicians they know will make them richer and such.
KunsanVeteran · M
@BohemianBabe So, I wonder—which of his so-called “friends” will be the one who takes him out? Putin, KJU, MBS, Orban, Netanyahu, Erdogan, Ali Khamenai, or someone else? Or some combination?

@DeWayfarer Ironically, and I learnt this only a few days ago, Ukraine does not have vast reserves of minerals as appears commonly thought. Her main exports were agricultural products and steel.
The iron and steelworks at Mariopol did use Ukrainian ore and coal but the site and most of the city were destroyed by the Russian army.
There was also once a large graphite mine, but that had finished before the invasion.

Besides the suffering and deaths, the enthusiasm we all have for Ukraine is a reflection of their huge contribution in making America great over our history. While there may not be enthusiasm for Russia, we hopefully all understand what happened in WW2 and the 20 million+ Russians who perished at the hands of the Nazis with Ukraine help.

@Heartlander I want the war to end like everyone else. WWII is history, we are talking about 2025 where Russia has invaded one of our allies. Diplomacy should always be the first option but Putin does not seem to want that. Even Trump who is his friend failed at using diplomacy. The only way to stand up to bullies is a show of strength.

Three years later he is just noticing that Putin is crazy and is killing Ukrainians for no reason and sending rockets and drones into their cities?
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@JimboSaturn No, Putin has to be kept in the loop. When Putin stops answering the phone the war will continue towards a military conclusion. What will keep Putin answering the phone will be Trump's economic pressure.
What gave Putin the green light to invade Ukraine was Obama's promise to protect Ukraine if Ukraine surrendered their nuclear weapons. And what sent the Russian tanks rolling was Biden hobbling the US oil industry.

JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Heartlander Why would protection against invasion give Putin a "green light"? Seems contradictory. What eonomic pressure? Trump still hasn't done anything against Russia, in fact Russia was one of the only countries that he did not levy tariffs. Everyone was calling Russia out before it even happened. Trump absolutely loves Putin, and will do anything for people who flatter him.
