I always look at intention rather than focus on the action

That’s an amazing perspective and is true in some cases. I do think though that some people are indeed mean, and we should not make excuses for those. Dealing with stress and issues should not justify treating others badly. Especially if it is a pattern and not a one off incident.
@BittersweetPotato
Absolutely, patootie! I agree with you. Stress or pain doesn’t justify treating others badly, especially when it’s a repeated pattern. Understanding why someone behaves a certain way isn’t the same as excusing it.
For me, it’s more about choosing how I respond, less judgment, more clarity, and firm boundaries when needed. Compassion and accountability can exist at the same time.

Yep. I work at a call center and my coworkers call me "the therapist" because most of the calls I take start off angry and frustrated, but I speak calmly, reassure them that their problem is not as serious as it feels, and usually they calm down by the end of the call. I get a lot of great reviews from callers who take the survey at the end of the call, and I was even featured in the work newsletter. Kindness does matter and it does change people.

How’d you get to be so wise?
You get it though. You really do and I love that you put reminders like this out there for others. The world can get a bit noisy, even the world that lives inside us. Clarity like this helps us redirect the chaos trying to brew overhead into the calmer skies that are greatly needed.

True.
When you pause to see what’s underneath, reactions soften.
Compassion changes how you respond, not what you accept.

I find asking clarifying questions to be a big help as well.
I may have assumed something very different then what the other person intended

True but @Bexsy is just mean to me but she probably cares for me too somehow.
Captainjackass · 31-35, M
@Bexsy I just wish you’d show it instead of just making me clean up the bodies.
Yes!
