Have you ever fired a gun?

I have to admit, target shooting is fun. My husband has an old winchester cowboy rifle (I don't know the real name, sue me), and my god that thing has got some boom. Super glad he told me to wear a thick coat even though it was warm out, shoulder is still sore.

How about any of you? Fire anything recently?

Yesterday target practice
kodiac · 22-25, M
@Onestarlitnight I use the prelubed wads from cabellas
chrisCA · M
@kodiac It would be cool to own a pair of Western style single action revolvers.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@chrisCA Cowboy guns!
TexChik · F

all the time, since I was 11.

@Onestarlitnight nice . My targets were 40’
I go to the range regularly. Shoot rifles and handguns.
Mu hub has both too. He has 5 or 6. I don't remember. @BizSuitStacy

Sharpshooter medal in the Army.
Yes in a gun range.
Gusman · 61-69, M
Not a gun, a .22 Rifle.
On the farm I worked at in Esperance, 1990.
The owner wanted the Kangaroos off the property, gave me the rifle, easily 400 metres away.
Thankfully I missed.

Yes, love shooting. My dad taught me how to shoot along with gun safety when I was a kid. My husband and I have a range on our property and shoot often.
exexec · 61-69, C
Yes. I hunted a lot as a kid and teenager. I also had access to big sawdust piles where we could shoot targets all day with our rifles. Ammo was cheap back then.
Yes. I was in the Army and afterwards as an engineer I used to design experimental ammunition for the government actually!
it's usually referred to as a leveractions, often with the year of design/original manufacture. like an 1884 (I think, I've not dug into them a whole lot). often quite a range of calibers you can get.
I've fired quite a few firearms, a bit of range. it's been a long time since I've thrown any lead. I tend to prefer pistols/have better general luck with them.

I started target shooting and hunting , with my dad, when I was a kid. I started deer hunting when I was an adult. I have a bolt action Remington 700, chambered in .30-06. Regarding your sore shoulder, I can relate. Prior to hunting season, I go to the range and fire 60 rounds for practice; the .30-06 has substantial recoil, and my shoulder is sore for a day or two after.
TexChik · F
@CookieCrumbs Nice. I do gun hunt but most of my deer are bow kills
Fullmetal · 46-50, M
@TexChik marry me!! Lol
TexChik · F
@Fullmetal hahaha
Tanya02 · 41-45, F
Yes you nearly fall over when you shoot the thing
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
i often fantasize about hunting mammoth an 'atlatl'. but alas, winchester no longer makes this, and elephants are now 100% protected. however, bushmeat hunters and ivory poachers still take them with surplus russian AK47s
Fullmetal · 46-50, M
@SusanInFlorida the Model 94 Winchester in 30-30 is still in production! There are a couple of calibers that are discontinued though
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@Fullmetal good to know. i don't think anyone as made an atlatl in years. they're to die for, though . . .
chrisCA · M
Yes. Several over the years.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
Several guns and a few people
Oh for sure 👌 went target shooting many times. Had to defend myself once as well & that was a year ago. I haven't fired a round ever since then though. Ammo has been expensive ever since COVID hit so I haven't gone target shooting like I used to

i've fired many guns
a gun was placed in my hands at 4 and i know it sounds stupid but it is the only smart thing my insane parents did ever....he put it in my hand and then held on to my hands as i shot at the target. the shock of it is why i never played with guns
I have 2 rifles and a hand gun. I was in the army cadets at 13 and was shooting live rounds. Then went in to the TA and got my marksmanship award. I now shoot for fun and relaxing
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I used to shoot competitively. It was great fun. Maybe you were shooting a 30.30, They were a nice rifle. Not terribly accurate but they got the job done.
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
Last time I fired a gun was maybe ten years ago. Doesn't really give me the same excitement
Whodunnit · M
Only a ball-bearing gun and even then I'm more dangerous to anyone stood behind me than in front of me.
Vidoc2 · 31-35, M

RedBaron · M
Took riflery as a kid at summer camp. We fired .22-caliber rifles at paper targets.
Fullmetal · 46-50, M
@mariannezap sounds like you fired a Winchester Model 94. I shoot almost every weekend...
leeloh · F
