Nope, though in Africa I did see a lot of animals eating animals that had already been killed. Hyenas and vultures doing a lot of the eating.

Been told that seeing an actual kill is very rare. Those National Geographic photographers and the like can travel around for weeks/months before coming across a kill in progress.

Lol….. btw, notice how I’m very calm. Don’t know what the heck that other dude was getting so worked up about. 😂

@OlderSometimesWiser Which user are you talking about?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@OlderSometimesWiser you are entitled to your view, but after explaining the same thing 2 or 3 times how can one not get upset?
Bleed · 41-45, F
As a kid I took the school gerbils home one summer. It had babies which she then ate. She was halfway through the last one when I found them 😭😭😭
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
I’ve watched a king snake eat a copperhead. And a jumping spider eat a wasp.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@rinkydinkydoink Beatrice took out a whole hive one by one it seemed like.
@SwampFlower

probably more than I can remember. caught some on camera. the gator after another gator time was kinda wild.
@rinkydinkydoink until gators reach sexual maturity other gators(particularly the males) see the little ones as just another food source. female gators have a offspring drive a little more than the males and will drive the males away as best they can, but .. yeah the cold blooded thing runs deep for them.
@dirge

smh
Nature is crueler than I thought.
@rinkydinkydoink oh.. nature is terrible in some ways. many ways.

Years ago, my dogs caught a rabbit in front yard.
Only on a documentary, it was a lion eating a buffalo. It made me sad lol, and I had no idea the world had much worse to offer. I was young.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@SinlessOnslaught our guide during our safari kept reminding me that this is the law of nature, and we may not interfere.
@samueltyler2 This in particular, maybe.

Gator chomping a coot. Brown anole (lizard) eating a small gecko. Ribbon snake eating a frog. And others.
Gusman · 61-69, M
I often see Kookaburras eating lizards that are still thrashing about. 🙁

No, I don't have the stomach for it
@Prettybratbi1tch

That's totally understandable
I see it every couple of weeks
Bleed · 41-45, F
@Nunlover But they’re already dead though??
@Bleed I didn’t notice the alive part 😂
Bleed · 41-45, F
@Nunlover That’s what you get for man looking.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
On safari we saw animals kill other animals, then eat them.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@rinkydinkydoink yes, I have seen those as well, but many of them are fake, and even if it ever really happened, I would never suggest anyone bringing a wild animal into their homes. That said, the modern dog was a bred into domestication from a wolf
@samueltyler2

The Russians carried out a multi-year breeding experiment with foxes trying to eventuate a totally tame one. They succeeded - the end product lost its bushy tail, its red color and its ears flopped. The foxes were not only more docile but they vied with one another for the affections of their handlers.

Funny you raised this point because a few days ago I had a post on animal choices for pets.

EDIT - not red foxes but silver foxes. Plus there were many other changes, too. Like the size and shape of their jaws.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@rinkydinkydoink we support a wolf rescue area not far from here. They have a deal with the turnpike authority to pick up all road kill to use to feed the wolves.
raised pigs. had a boar and a sow, she had piglet's, the male piglets got in the boars pin. he ate three of the males.
@rinkydinkydoink he is protecting his kingdom being the only male,

but he ended up being smoked hams and bacon,
@jackrabbit10

Even his own... I thought lions were bad (although that's Nature) for killing off another male's cubs - but I'm unsure if they ate them as well.
@jackrabbit10

My dad was raised on a farm. He learned early about how "cruel" life and death can be when the little runt pig he befriended became dinner one night.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
In the alley outside my apartment, a hawk munching on a pigeon.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@hunkalove as horrible as it was, the hawk had to eat to live
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@samueltyler2 He didn't have to be a cannibal!
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@hunkalove i don't think anyone would call it that.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
I saw a bird eating an earthworm
@MartinTheFirst

Earthworms gotta be the most eaten alive critter ever... :(
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@rinkydinkydoink they cant help they're so juicy and helpless
@MartinTheFirst

You had to embellish your callous remark with "helpless", eh??!!
romell · 51-55, M
Snakes do that quite often so do sharks
@romell

Someone earlier told me to google odd shark behavior so this is how I found out least one type of shark does so in the womb.
@PromiseProtectionProvision

It's a solid question! My friend kept hawks. One ate a snake as quickly as it was able to while another made a big deal out of eating a snake with little nibbles while it danced on the thing...
@rinkydinkydoink Life feeds on life. Yes, I've seen it. It didn't really bother me. It's the cycle of life I reckon.
@PromiseProtectionProvision

Yes!

Whenever I look at a photo of a beautiful landscape or of a seascape I think of all the life and death struggles we don't see but would see if we got a lot closer...
@tobynshorty

Don't despair - There's still time!
