I do.

Since it's a large and powerful church with over a billion members, it has an effect on non-Catholics through the pope's influence on policy in many countries. It makes a difference if the pope is liberal or conservative, radical or traditional.
Prevost wasn't mentioned in any of the articles about the frontrunners, who were supposed to be Tagle, Erdő, Pizzabella, Zuppi, and a few others. So I'll have to look him up before I can form an opinion on him. American cardinals tend to be conservative but I don't know anything about this guy.

I only care because of the influence he has on Catholics, and they rest of the world has to deal with millions and millions of Catholics, soooo....
Give us a well-meaning, liberal, inclusive Pope and the world might be a little better place for the rest of us.
Give us a hating, repressive Pope and that causes problems for the rest of us.

I'm a terrible Catholic, not really observant, but I care. Francis was a very good Pope, and it's not his fault we didn't follow him. Still, the church leads people and fails to lead people, so it matters.

He’s a global figure. His values, where he’s from and how he speaks on things like justice or the environment influence how people and leaders around the world think and act. He is a political social influencer.

There are enough Catholics in the world that the quality of the pope can impact how they behave. Pope Francis was pretty good overall. He had a softening effect of Catholics and brought kindness back to thee forefront. Not perfect by any means. Despite what their religion says he's still just a man and corruption is still present in the Catholic Church

I agree!
Exactly

Let’s just hope this one stays on topic and out of politics..

Oh, the history books tell it, they tell it so well
The cavalries charged, the Indians fell
The cavalries charged, the Indians died
Oh, the country was young with God on its side...

He doesn't mean anything to me either nor their houses of idols .. i’m protestant
Then why watch it if it doesn't interest you???
@HootyTheNightOwl You don't have to be interested in something to see it, especially as it's everywhere in the media. Plus religion as a social phenomenon can be analysed by non-religious people.
@EarthlingWise I don't care for US Politics... how do I deal with it??? I keep scrolling, of course.

Christians do and they are 31% of the world population.
@carpediem You mean Catholics.

@AMelancholyHaunting I meant Christians
@carpediem Protestants don’t care about the pope. They worship god, not Rome.
mayguy · 51-55, M
Why? Because he's arguably the most influential person in the world.
