Do most people even know what socialism is?
I ask, because I have some serious doubts about that. It seems to me that most (especially those from the U.S.) think that a responsible government doing what governments are supposed to do anyway (like provide the basics, like free healthcare) is somehow socialism. It is not. That's just basic decency.
Socialism: the management of the economy, by the government of a state or nation, to the extent that destabilising factors (ex. extreme wealth inequality) never arise, through various mechanisms such as the regulation of banking, the control of vital industries and services, progressive taxation, and legislation designed to limit or eliminate altogether any chance of the political system becoming corrupted by big business and donors.
The above is a very simple definition, by no means comprehensive, but it's basically our government working for us, the people, and not rich fat cats.
Now WHY would anyone not like socialism? 🤔
