I am not sure that Burnham will be much different to Starmer on policy. He is much better political communicator and has a lot of momentum behind him, but there are various reasons why I don't think much will change.
In terms of his popularity, he can't do worse than Starmer. He will definitely have a honeymoon period but after about a year, this might fade.

@SunshineGirl As his first Party, UKIP, and when it realised it might need a Manifesto to have any real; chance of winning a General Election, I objected to so much in the one it proposed I left it. (To be fair, only proposed.)
Though the last straw for me was its replacement of Nigel Farage as leader by Gerard Batten. He seemed reasonable at first then only went and appointed Stephen Yaxley-Lennon as a "special advisor". Ironically UKIP's own Rules barred from membership extremists like Y-L, whether of Right or Left.
I am no supporter of Mr. Farage now. A man who recently stated openly, in a radio interview, his motive for being a politician was the same as his choice of the money trade: "the buzz" . Not for the country (nor previously, his money-trade customers), but "the buzz." His own phrase, and he even laughed about it. Time he buzzed off....
