About Donald Trump's new ballroom ......

Although I generally support President Donald Trump,I do concede that his decision to replace the East Wing of the White House with a large ballroom can be viewed as questionable in some contexts.Yes,I realize that it will be funded privately and not cost the taxpayers anything ,which is of course a good thing. And no ,I don't view it as some sort desecration of scared norms the way the progressives are saying ( you know they'll attack him no matter what he does !) But while I'm sure he and future Presidents will make good use of it ,I'm forced to confess the optics of doing such a thing may not be the best in the current climate of economic uncertainty. And I also admit that he may have gone a little overboard in taking out the entire East Wing ; if it's possible ,he may have been better off simply making it a relatively smaller addition to the structure that was already there .One thing I admit I actively don't like : I read they had to demolish the White House movie room to

accommodate the new ballroom. The movie room is one of the best perks of being President!

I think it’s great. once all the whining is done, I think most people will appreciate the beautiful addition to the White House complex. I understand the optics of it, but it’s also putting lots of people to work building it.
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@DavidT8899 bit like tony Blair
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@DavidT8899 True, not always. Then again sometimes it does.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@nudistsueaz We will just have to see how it turns out .
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
I agree with you on this point. It isn't good optics considering the government is closed.

But! This was in motion long before the shutdown, it's ok to move forward with it considering it is being funded by private donations.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@SumKindaMunster Yes ,the private funding is definitely the best part of the project. But a ballroom that's bigger than the White House itself? And demolishing the entire East Wing to build it ? It's just a little too much for me .Then again ,Im not the President,so.......
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
I realize that it will be funded privately and not cost the taxpayers anything

He has destroyed an entire wing of a public building. That is quite a cost to the taxpayer.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@SunshineGirl In terms of actual corruption, many do .
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@DavidT8899 Could we please focus on the subject of the post rather than the obligatory adoration of the MAGA?
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@SunshineGirl How ironic that you make such a statement on a post where I'm critizing him for an action that he took.....🙄
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
We like it. It's long overdue.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@nudistsueaz Not that the ballroom is a terrible idea ,though I've made my specific complaints with the process clear.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@DavidT8899 If it's not a waste of tax dollars, I am okay with it.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@nudistsueaz Pretty much same here .
idontcareok · 70-79, M
i appreciate hearing from you 2 guys, a good post here ty
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@idontcareok Well,I think it was more mature and civilized than a lot of the posts here .Like I said ,I wish they were all like that !
idontcareok · 70-79, M
@DavidT8899 yes, very true
joe438 · 61-69, M
While other presidents have left behind improvements to the WH, I would agree that the timing was unfortunate. But more people will use the ballroom Trump paid for than the basketball court that Obama charged the taxpayers $375M for.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@joe438 True ,and I don't disagree with the general idea of a ballroom .But while I support President Trump,I do think the made errors in judgement in two areas: he went too large on scale ( he could have had a smaller ballroom without destroying the East Wing ,and he went ahead with construction too aggressively.

@4meAndyou In general principle I agree .Donald Trump has a legitimate claim to the most abused President in history ,and I do support him vigorously in most things. That said ,you can get to a point where a President is above ANY criticism. And keep in mind ,Im not looking at this situation as some terrible abuse of power ,but nothing more - or less - than a rare lapse in judgement.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
There is never a "right time". Some will always complain, no matter what.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@nudistsueaz As Ive posted earlier ,I realize that his opponents will attack him no matter what he does.Im not factoring them into my analysis. And as I've stated many times already ,I'm not critizing the basic concept of a ballroom ,only the scope and execution of the project.
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
So .. you're upset about .. ~ nothing of importance ? 😅
idontcareok · 70-79, M
@DavidT8899 thank you,
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
@DavidT8899
Dont disagree with that assessment. I could use a little less of his demeanor that invites so much vitriol, gets in the way of being more effective at times. The nerve to tackle stuff that needs it head on is worth that aspect.

Debated a bit and we did so without escalation. 👍🏼
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@BrandNewMan I've noticed that too .😀It's nice to have a conversation on this sight where you don't agree on everything but it doesn't turn into a screaming / insult contest.I wish all of the exchanges here were like that. And I agree that Trump's greatest strength - his boldness and willingness to speak his mind - are at the same time his biggest weakness .

@Pitchblue Here comes the flood of made up b.s. ..
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@BrandNewMan I've deleted his post.Weve been having a nice ,civilized conversation and Im not going to have it ruined by the usual left wing nonsense .
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
It's something that will actually be used for international events, unlike all the additions made by previous presidents that were mostly for personal use...
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@wildbill83 Again ,I'm not saying the basic idea was bad ,only the implementation.
Charity · 61-69
Private funding .... The way Trump wheels and deals he may have paid those companies off with taxpayers money to use their name under contract not to disclose truths.

The trump ballroom / the man loves using his name in such manner. Like the rump gold coin dollar, want his face on Mount Rushmore, sad.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
He's building a new Mar-a-Lago at the whitehouse.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@zonavar68 I wouldn't go that far ,although ,as I've said ,I do believe the overdid things in terms of size and scope.
SW-User
You don't want to waltz with Trump?
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@SW-User Seeing as Im not a great dancer ,.............
Prison1203 · 61-69, M
The best thing is that it’s being paid for by donors and not tax payer money, but don’t tell the dummycrats that, they want to lie and cry about it
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Prison1203 And that's the really good part about the project .
Musicman · 61-69, M
I bet when the Democrats finally get back in office all of a sudden they will love it.
idontcareok · 70-79, M
@Musicman they will bring in illegal aliens and let them live there
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@idontcareok Highly unlikely . Democrats only want illegals to live in other people's places .
