About Donald Trump's new ballroom ......

Although I generally support President Donald Trump,I do concede that his decision to replace the East Wing of the White House with a large ballroom can be viewed as questionable in some contexts.Yes,I realize that it will be funded privately and not cost the taxpayers anything ,which is of course a good thing. And no ,I don't view it as some sort desecration of scared norms the way the progressives are saying ( you know they'll attack him no matter what he does !) But while I'm sure he and future Presidents will make good use of it ,I'm forced to confess the optics of doing such a thing may not be the best in the current climate of economic uncertainty. And I also admit that he may have gone a little overboard in taking out the entire East Wing ; if it's possible ,he may have been better off simply making it a relatively smaller addition to the structure that was already there .One thing I admit I actively don't like : I read they had to demolish the White House movie room to

accommodate the new ballroom. The movie room is one of the best perks of being President!

He has destroyed an entire wing of a public building. That is quite a cost to the taxpayer.

@SunshineGirl Not if the donors are covering the cost of it.

@DavidT8899 In accounting terms, a large public asset has been lost overnight and the taxpayer is on the hook for that. Whether or not it is eventually replaced with something of equal value remains to be seen as Trump has bypassed normal auditing protocols. At this moment in time we have only his word.

@SunshineGirl and is his word not ok
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Royrogers If I bulldozed a couple of classrooms in your local public school without planning permission and a vague promise that I would replace them with a pilates studio (for which I refused to show you the plans) would you be ok with that?
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@SunshineGirl certainly not. I was inviting comment. The idea of building a ballroom is not repugnant but the huge alteration to a national builds

@Royrogers And although I generally support the current President ,I can't say that there is not some truth in that .
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@SunshineGirl And as I've said ,I agree that was not the best way to go about the project- though I suspect the TDS crowd would be condemning him no matter what he did .

@Royrogers This is a man who has declared corporate bankruptcy on six occasions. Alarm bells should be ringing.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@SunshineGirl No,there are many politicians before him who have done worse .

@DavidT8899 In terms of business failure and dishonouring debts, none spring to mind readily 🤔
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@SunshineGirl In terms of actual corruption, many do .
