How many non-American countries would be accepting of us living there, under usual circumstances? I've got a little case of grass is always greener syndrome, looking at how my country is.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@familyfunguy I know Canada wouldn't accept me unless the circumstances were dire. They're not fond of felons or people with neurodivergent conditions, as it were.

Heartlander · 80-89, M
When I was in the USAF I lived in a few different countries for periods of a few months and enjoyed it. France, UK, Panama, Vietnam. I once had a job possibility to live and work in Saudi Arabia for a couple of years but it fell through. Also was once tempted with an Air America type job but said no thanks.

I'm too old for that now, but would be OK if living accommodations were in the penthouse suite pf a 5 star hotel and job just entailed hanging around and smiling and just for a few months.
Akimbo75 · 46-50, F
@Heartlander I sadly opened an amazon package today thinking… if I lived in a different country I probably wouldn’t have gotten this next day. could I survive and thrive? meh, yeah I think so
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@Akimbo75 We do seem to live with a sense of urgency in the US ... or have progressed to that over the past 50 years.

Remember when people fed that urgency by putting things on "lay away"? Where a store would hold the merchandise safely and the customer paid a little at a time, then received the merchandise once fully paid for. Remember when banks had Christmas Savings accounts? Now, 50 years later we can get things with ZERO down and 10 years to pay, or putting things on charge cards with unlimited years to pay.

Just this Sunday morning I put in a $300 food order at Walmart and it was delivered to our doorstep at 6 p.m. I could have received it earlier. With Amazon I sometimes think they are in time travel and delivering before I even order it.

Does that urgency exist anywhere else on earth?
on that note, we are so short of doctors and nurses in my part of canada we are pretty much guaranteeing jobs with incentives to any americans who want to come up here
KingofBones1 · 46-50, M
No. Simply because my relatives actually not only helped establish this country During the Revolution my ancestors were also native Cree it is our country to begin with I would rather stand and fight for my own land than ever give it up to a tyrant or a foreign government
Akimbo75 · 46-50, F
@KingofBones1 very reasonable.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
No. I'm retired. Don't want another job. And I don't wanna move.

I'VE HAD ENOUGH
NO NO NO NO

I would've said the UK is very nice but it's at it's limit already and it's really not nice anymore, these last years it's spiralled down like it's in a flat spin and sooner or later it's gonna crash.
Yes, think would be exciting to live somewhere else. New experiences
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Not yet, but getting closer every day. I sometimes wonder what led to some Germans leaving Germany in the early 1930s this avoiding the Holocaust?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@AthrillatheHunt true but the antisemitism in Germany seemed to come as a shock since they had been so assimilated for a century. That is why many didn't make much of the Nazis thinking it would pass. The similarities here are astoundingly worrisome.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 If you believe the statistic that 2% of US is trans that puts their numbers at 6 million , same as Jews who were gassed . Where will the trans nation state be ? Maui?

I would need a really strong reason to do so. I’m generally happy in the US
trollslayer · 46-50, M
If I didn’t have kids and aging parents and was not 10 years from retirement, I would.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@trollslayer Start a go-fund-me-page, we will be happy to donate
In the right situation I might consider it for a few years .. Canadian Rockies could get me to do that. There might be a couple other places .. but none for a permanent change.
This thread reads like a barometer of American civic psyche: weary, divided, self-protective, and in some cases, morally unsettled. It reveals not only how people see the U.S. but how they see themselves in relation to the world—rooted or adrift, angry or resigned, hopeful or nostalgic.
@Akimbo75 Like this guy.

@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays that was terrifying to listen to.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Akimbo75 I love in NJ, so my vote certainly doesn't count like one in Idaho, etc.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Another friend saw The Weekend last night at met life stadium in NJ . Said it was awesome .
Akimbo75 · 46-50, F
@AthrillatheHunt That does sound awesome. Maybe a little off topic, unless I missed something lol
IM5688 · 61-69, M
I would consider it, but not on a permanent basis. Also, would have to be a place where I was at least somewhat familiar with their culture and their language.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
I can do that. If I did move I would pick a tropical country.
Adrift · 61-69, F
@MrBrownstone Me too. But one with no weird bugs.
I'm considering it but I have very little experience travelling.
PHlover19701 · 56-60, M
Yes. Switzerland or Germany might be nice.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@PHlover19701 they only want those already self sufficient to live there
akindheart · 61-69, F
@AthrillatheHunt i was really surprised because it was not a great trip for me.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@akindheart oh whys that? They are super stand-off ish but very good people.
graphite · 61-69, M
Ireland is very nice. But there is no hockey there. And you have to make at least 50,000 Euros a year if you come from outside the EU, or they throw you out. Another one of these countries that scolds the USA for not wanting millions of illegals but sets it own tough standards for immigration.
lostlissa · 36-40, F
No way would i leave the USA to live in another country.
akindheart · 61-69, F
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
I don't think so.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
No. Been there, done that.
Nope! If the ship goes down, I go down with it!
@Unefilletrescurieuse that makes you an awesome american.... good heart and soul. but you are always welcome to visit us in canada 🤗
@beermeplease Thank you 😊
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Yes. Is anywhere accepting people over sixty?
Yes, in a NY second
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
Probably. Mexico, Norway, Canada maybe I like all three in their own ways
Maya15 · F
no. i'm 15. so rather not work i guess.

certainly not about liking the us though.
@Maya15 who is the bully?
Maya15 · F
@Unefilletrescurieuse The United States of America
Maya15 · F
@Unefilletrescurieuse as far as why not leave. i don't understand where you're going with that.
i don't like russia that well either. will moving make me like them better?
i think i'd just not like either from somewhere else.
i don't know if i'd be happier not liking the US and russia either.
so i really don't see where you're going with this.

i have a right to live in the united states and nowhere else so i wouldn't want to be arrogant and entitled presuming some other country should let me live there.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I'm on the fence right now.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
If things keep deteriorating here.
@samueltyler2 Why wait ? Go ahead and leave now .. you know .. beat the crowds
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@BrandNewMan i sometimes wonder when it is time to leave and where to go? It is as of i amivong in 1930 Europe and see the storm clouds rising.
Akimbo75 · 46-50, F
exchrist · 31-35
Probably not they wouldnt let me come back based on the current situation.
faery · 31-35, F
Of course, that would be exciting
Selah ·
Yeah. Maybe Brazil or Senegal.
Reason10 · 70-79, M
My daughter was on a student ambassador trip to Europe shortly after she graduated high school. She fell in love with Austria. Loved its climate and generally peaceful setting. (She went to China on the next student ambassador trip and got to meet Mary Eisenhower, (grandmother of a US President.)

Truthfully, I wouldn't want to even leave Florida. I've been to Canada and the Caribbean, (including Mexico).
Bumbles · 51-55, M
France, Italy, Mexico, Japan

AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Americans can get work visas for most countries
@AthrillatheHunt i mentioned here that american doctors and nurses are pretty much guaranteed a job instantly if they want to come to canada.....we need them badly 🥺
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@beermeplease no country in its right mind would say no to a western educated MD.
Seashell · 36-40, F
