Larry Fink is the CEO of BlackRock, the world's largest asset management firm. And he even admits his firm is forcing behaviors on DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) standards amid pushback on companies setting similar goals.
Back in 2017, Fink said this during an interview with the NY Times, "Behaviors are gonna have to change, and this is one thing we're asking companies. You have to force behaviors, and at BlackRock we are forcing behaviors."
This isn't about republicans or democrats, because both parties have major players hugely invested in companies like BlackRock and Vanguard. Yet each side continues pointing the finger at the other to keep us divided.
@BizSuitStacy glad to see someone is awake. I came to his spot to include vanguard but then saw that you included them near the bottom of your comment and.. i have nothing to add here. Splendidly spoken. You deserve the B.C.
@CountScrofula It is true both parties take campaign donations - because they have to. If one party were to refuse the donations the other side would get all the money. That's why President Biden passing the DISCLOSE Act is so important. It is the first significant step in campaign finance reform. Of course, much more needs to be done, but President Biden has made an important start.
@badminton Oh my point is that corporations know full well their interests are still well-served by Democrats. Campaign finance reform is all well and good but my point is that the increasing inequality and corporate domination of the political system has worsened no matter who is in charge.
If you use California which is notably the liberal bastion, the economic side of things has been entirely about privatization and handing over public resources to private interests.
There's a reason left and right are now entirely about social issues. There's no economic left anymore.
@originnone I don't think so. Oligarchy follows wherever capitalism goes and democracy is not safe. People are too accepting of capitalism with its class structure.
@Amylynne since that time, and Ozulu's ascension, Republicans have gained over 1000 state offices. Mostly because your party is so dismally power mad and all around awful.
And they are getting punished rightfully for it.
You knew all this and tried to spread the lie that Republicans were doing all the gerrymandering. Knowing your more ignorant brethren would spout it as gospel
Corporations bribe many of our politicians with campaign contributions. We urgently need serious campaign finance reform laws. Most important is repealing the disastrous Citizens v. United (2010) decision.
President Biden has made a very important start on campaign finance reform with the DISCLOSE Act, though much more needs to be done.
@BizSuitStacy "The Media" is not engaged in some giant conspiracy. There are legitimate, professional news organizations, with fact-checkers and editors, such as Associated Press, The New York Times, U.K. Guardian, to name a few. Check a variety of sources, look for documented, verifiable evidence by legitimate sources. Don't get fooled by delusional fantasy conspiracy theories.
@sunsporter1649 from a Politico article by Nick Gass, 2016, "Donald Trump disproportionately benefited from the Fourth Estate’s coverage over the past year of the presidential campaign. Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, drew the most negative coverage of any other candidate."
From Vox "Study: Hillary Clinton, not Donald Trump, gets the most negative media coverage." By Jeff Stein, May 20, 2016
Ordinary every day ppl stopped giving these ppl money long ago. Corporation, special interest lobbyists money is their only source of money.. that’s who they obey
Well. That and the money the launder thru NGO’s and war
If someone had control, the world wouldn't be so chaotic. I think people often like to scapegoat their character flaws onto the institutions that harbor them. It's easier than working to change oneself.
@Penny I would hate to live in a world of people who were exactly like me, it would be maddening to never have other perspectives. I sometimes think the world would be better if I were here alone, but it's usually only when I feel disempowered. Anyways, I just feel no matter what direction this conversation heads, you're going to shoot down whatever I have to say. I think this is arguing for the sake of arguing, and that's seldom conducive to anything.
The Right has all these crazy-ass conspiracy theories about secret societies controlling the Deep State. Meanwhile, corporations openly bribe politicians into making the laws they want. The conspiracy theories are just a way to distract people from what's happening right in front of us.
@BohemianBabe Quite so.. And they are perfectly happy with people talking about the Illuminati , the deep state and the Lizard people to draw attention away from them..😷
All this GMO glycophosphate business is giving everyone celiac disease. The fast food joints are gonna have to start going gluten free if they want to keep up.
Of course. We didn't make that unlawful. We're fascists by definition. And we lie about everything. Murkan people have no off ramps or exit strategies from endless war and total ecocide. Lolz,!!! Capitalism is at home there and will always be the biggest killer on the planet - known as "huh, whah?" to those killers!
@Musicman An example of theft would be corrupt defense contractors drastically overcharging the American taxpayer. This is why Congress needs to require a full independent audit of the pentagon yearly.
