Well, I think it's about perspective, right? For the person who understands and values equity, order and progression toward better things as a group, you might see government as assuming most of the heavy lifting. Eveything we do in a day has something to do with government, whether in our parish or country right on up to the White House. They handle mail, trash, public and educational transportation, school meals, payout programs of all kind. They made sure the roads and bridges were working and protected the materials young people would need to continue the art. They ensure a modicum of comfort for the elderly. Government does much (the greatest portion of our budget goes to social welfare) to ensure the machine continues to work.
Hoewever, if your view is one of external locus of control - that is, those who think everything and everyone is to blame for their lot - then you see government intervening, attemtping control and further putting restrictions on life. They become the Great Excuse: If not for ___, things would be okay and I could get ahead; it's all the fault of __." And those peolpe will never be satisfied and will never work toward solutions becasue they don't see government as a partner in this social experiement, they view themas just another enemy. Conspiracies are born of ignorance and fear. With so many conspiracies to work through, they'll never see the true heart of government. They end up following personalities rather than policies and they've never been slow at sacrificing their mesiah for a newer model.
So it depends on your perspective. And it's important to keep in mind that we can shit our view any time we like.

Government has been always powerful.
People have choice to choose during election that's all.
Isn't government made of people, if government is bad then people are bad.
I read this somewhere "People gets the government they deserve".

Makes me nervous too.

@SW-User Yeah and I don't know what to do with it lol. I tried to put a positive spin as I said in my post lol but it does make one think.

@MasterofNone I don't know tbh. Reality everywhere is scary right now. 🤗
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@SW-User Yeah well that's the right way to put it, it's scary af lol🥺

You won't like CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) or social credit scoring systems then. China has a social credit system, Italy is toying with having one, and Darwin Australia has been trialling one.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@zonavar68 Yeah those things factor into my current thought process

Excessive control should make someone paranoid period. Government or otherwise. Putting it in the hands of people isn’t any better.
Riverman2 · 56-60, M
The problem with too strong of a government is that the people who get in control of it typically do not believe that all people are created equal and have unalienable rights. They think there should be a ruling class and a working class. The working class is not equal but is subordinate to the ruling class.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@Riverman2 I am fine with that as long as worker class is able to live comfortably.
Riverman2 · 56-60, M
@MasterofNone Who do you think would get to define what is "living comfortably"?
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@Riverman2 I see what you mean. It's one of those "let's meet somewhere in the middle" scenarios.

In 1918 the schools didn't close, and federal educators were not paid handsomely to be on permanent vacation , FYI.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@checkoutanytime yeah that's the sort of thing I was thinking. It has always been worse.
checkoutanytime · M
@MasterofNone worse? People then lived extravagant lifes compared to now.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@checkoutanytime yeah the middle class is getting nonexistent at the moment. People who work jobs don't have the time to do much else.

I think any conclusion is contained in your statement as the control being "excessive", which by definition meams that it is more control than the government *ought* to have.

Then you should want democracy, not small government.
Small government leads to corporate rule.
Small government leads to corporate rule.

People are dumb. When someone blabs about wanting a small government he is saying that he wants an absolute monarchy or a dictatorship where people are kept out of the process of participating in the political affairs of their country.Small government leads to corporate rule.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@Roundandroundwego "democracy" sure
