Seems like nobody who mentions the U.S. placing missiles in Turkey was actually due to a Soviet occupation of Eastern Europe that had started with the Ruskies cooperative invasion with Nazi Germany of Poland in September 1939.

@beckyromero Doubtful, but Putin desires to return lands lost when the Soviet Union collapsed....and will do what he feels necessary to bring his mad dream to reality.

It’s a fact people are aware of that the Soviets were certainly provoked into this cause of action.
But the gun pointing at you always demands the most attention.

@Gloomy To the winner goes the spoils. We may both consider these bombings as war crimes, but Nazis were bombing civilians in Europe and the Japanese horrific acts are also well documented. There were 'war crimes' on all sides.
The US helped in the rebuilding of Japan and we have become great friends.
BTW: The 1954 Japanese film Gojira (Godzilla) was made as a warning about further nuclear testing. A small Japanese fishing boat was exposed to fallout from a nearby test by the US, and was a factor in the story. It is worth a watch and reading the background gives a look from their perspective.

Weapons to Turkey that began in the late 1950s were part of the NATO Atomic Stockpile plan in which the U.S. would provide nuclear weapons delivery systems to allies and concurrently train their forces in the use of the weapons.
Russia removed its missiles from Cuba.
In a separate deal, which remained secret for more than twenty-five years, the United States also agreed to remove its nuclear missiles from Turkey. Although the Soviets removed their missiles from Cuba, they escalated the building of their military arsenal; the missile crisis was over, the arms race was not.

Because America was always the good guy, duh.
Also, the entire Cold War was one sided on America's part. During this period, Russia was way more concerned with China, as their relations also soured after WWII plus they were sharing a border.

@BohemianBoo which caused the ussr to spend most of its resources on its military which would lead to food shortages for its citizens

The USA requires you to say it was not aggressive. It's important to say that USA was never wrong. No war crimes are committed by the USA - officially.
If you decide to talk about the obvious historical contradictions to that official narrative you cannot work in any profession, and never ever close to home or during the day or facing the public.
Aloha to Hawaii Dems. You never ever once fell off the liars wagon and you totally deserve this climate disaster. But your unwanted grandkids don't.

Personally, that's what I learned about this when taught in school. Perhaps its a recent development.

Probably for the same reasons why the US media ignored the Holocaust until it was over.

@Heartlander I doubt whether the media got sniff of the concentration camps, as there was a press embargo.
And the concentration camps in France were not admitted until the early nineties.
Even when Coventry was heavily bombed, it was referred to simply as a town in the midlands.

Nothing happened there.
Thirty years before, think of Hitler’s treatment of the Jews, homosexuals and gypsies. Stalin’s treatment of his own people.
And since then Covid, the treatment of the Ughuer people. the Rwandan and Cambodian genocides.
