If Trump *does* get impeached & removed, what happens next..? “FACTUAL HYPOTHESIS”

The US citizens will no doubt give you a definitive answer, but I think it is as you suggest: the VP takes over for the rest of the term.

There's no provision in the Constitution to hold an early election. Vance would immediately become president and serve the remainder of Trump's term. (And if he gets into the Oval Office before 20th January 2027 then he can run for election as president himself once, but if afterward that date, twice - per the 22nd amendment).

OTOH there's no constitutional provision against holding an early election either, and the 1792 Presidential Succession Act provided for a special election in case the offices of both president and vice president were vacant together, and a brand new 4 year term would begin from the next 4th March (the old inauguration date). But obviously this never happened.

Current law provides a long list of office-holders (basically the Speaker + president pro tempore of the Senate + the cabinet) who can act as president (without technically being the president), even for the full rest of the term, if that situation were to arise. Congress could, as far as I can see, change the law and provide for an early election, with the new president (and vice president) elect taking office on the following 20th January.

You can basically do it the American way... meaning, you let the vice-president do his job or organise an election. The next guy won't ask for anny accountability OR dress pretend to strive towards accountability in the moment and then forget all about it later. Which is basically what happened when the confederacy lost and Nixon left office.

The problem is, that this isn't about Trump. It's about:

1. A far-right movement that is sponsered by corporate interests and backed up by a propaganda-apperatus that want to push for something America was before the civil rights act.
2. A segment of the poppulation that is detached from reality and have reduced themselves to the mentality of fantics.

These things will not go away, untill you leave the American way behind. There needs to be accountability (including jail time), the propaganda machine needs to be dismantled and people need to be pulled out of right-wing fantasy land. This needs to be done in a short-term project, and a long term project where schools upgrade their classes in media-awarness and civic classes that are detached from "nationalist" myths.

The constitution has a clear order of succession, but the only president to have resigned in disgrace had the luxury of having appointed a vice president, when his vice-president, elected with him resigned in disgrace, so that appointed VP became president and appointed a new vp. The framers of our country never anticipated that any one would act in such a way as to put us into the situation we are in. the every 4 year presidential election worked great until now. If we were a parliamentary government, there could be a vote of no confidence forcing a presidential election, but to grant stability the founders decided against that.

Trump knows if he’s loses majority of houses he’s gunna spend the last 2 years in and out of courts..

and he also knows Theyl destroy him and anybody in his circle if they ever get back the White House.

I predict the insurrection act gets enacted once all the usual suspects pop off and start behaving like Minnesota.
And trumps ‘night of the long knives’ happens…

Who knows? According to the constitution, the VP would take over, but this administration has shown over and over that the constitution doesn't mean anything anymore.

If that happens, a trial to impeach is held in the senate, presided over by the Chief Justice.

The House Impeachment Managers present their case, and the Senate votes. 67 votes are needed to convict.

If that happens, the VP becomes president and finishes the term. What happens to the convicted ex-President, is determined by the outcome of the trial.
