Greta Thunberg deported by Israel in the Mediterranean.

Where is the US Navy? Why are we not protecting freedom of the seas? We have 14 ships including 2 carrier strike groups in the Mid-East. Do we expect China to believe that we are protecting freedom of the seas in the Taiwan Straits?

The US Navy doesn't assist vessels that are trying to run blockades of countries we'te not at war with. Plus, there were no Americans on the Good Ship Lollipop. A better question is where your friends in the Iranian navy were.

We aren't the world's police. It's not our place to protect freedom of the seas, nor do we have the military power to do so. We couldn't even stop the Houthis in the Red Sea, so there's your answer.

That may be so but the doctrine of US power over the world has been established after we took over from the Brits at the end of WW2. We couldn't even stop the rice farmers of Vietnam nor could we deal with the goat herders of Afghanistan. Without fancy weaponry, our tough guys would have had their butts kicked every time Uncle Sam sent them abroad to fight.

@sree251 we took over control of patrolling the worlds oceans after WW2. And global business has been booming ever since.

Took over? From whom? Business is still booming and expected to be booming on with China's Belt and Road facilitating trade away from maritime choke points at the Panama Canal, Suez Canal, and the Malacca Straits.

In the Mediterranean?
It's a pity the North Pole is so far away 🙄
Thinkingdeeper · 36-40, M
One of the concerns is this happened in international rather than territorial waters. Israel needs to be held to account for its actions.
@Thinkingdeeper it's not like it was a private yacht going to Cyprus. Since the vessel was intending to dock in Gaza without authorization, it could be stopped in international waters. Are you saying that if Russia sends a bomber to Ukraine, they can't shoot at it until it's in Ukrainian airspace?

"Mind your own business" is the ethic. You don't have the right to pop your neighbor walking across a public alley toward your house until he has crossed your fence.

Since the vessel was intending to dock in Gaza without authorization, it could be stopped in international waters.

Whose authorization? Since when have you gotten the right to control the public space around the house you have occupied?

Are you saying that if Russia sends a bomber to Ukraine, they can't shoot at it until it's in Ukrainian airspace?

What do you mean by they? The party at war with Russia has not identified itself. Ukraine is represented by a comedian backed by a bunch of cowards including the USA. Russia is the only man fighting with a bunch of women.
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@sree251

The "bunch of women" are giving "the only man" quite a difficult time of it.
The "special military operation" was only supposed to last a few weeks at most, in Putin's quest to restore the Russian empire. Lenin did a lot better, and a lot faster.

@LeopoldBloom

You're on a roll, Leo!
That's two things right in two days. Congrats!
I know America's government won't do anything to stop Israel from kidnapping Thunberg, but I hope Sweden gets involved.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@BohemianBabe
Israel isn't at war and the ship wasn't a war ship.

Greta's vessel was a sailboat loaded with food and supplies for Palestinians in Gaza. She was regarded as an attempt to delegitimize a gang of thugs occupying Palestine.
@sree251 Yeah, and everyone knew this. Zionists are just going full MAGA when they pretend that Greta Thunberg and Ms Rachel are agents of Hamas.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@BohemianBabe
Yeah, and everyone knew this.

Greta's campaign was a success. She has shown the complicity of the USA in enforcing siege and genocide in Palestine.
carpediem · 61-69, M
Israel has a blockade in effect. No way they're going to allow a bunch of attention seekers through. Who knows what they could have been carrying. She should consider herself lucky.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
We totally should have sent a fleet of air craft carriers to save her
sree251 · 41-45, M
@LeopoldBloom
Why?

There is no why. We - and no one else - rule the seas. We can't play favorites. We are either the world policeman or a thug.
@sree251 Then we should have stopped the Madleen, which was attempting an unauthorized landing. None of the people on board had Israeli visas. If your orange lord and savior can deport illegal immigrants, so can Israel.

Unauthorized? Who is the authority? Illegitimate authority - including that of the US trying to established a rules-based order on the world - will be crushed. It is a matter of time before injustice is trampled. You can't strut forever.

Poor little Greta.🤣 She better stick to pushing the great climate hoax.

Why would the US Navy get involved?
sree251 · 41-45, M
@samueltyler2
i think Russia, China and others might argue. But not worth arguing with you.

Arguing about what?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@sree251 your statement that the US rules the seas.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@samueltyler2
your statement that the US rules the seas.

It is an American belief that the US rules the seas. This is why no one complains about the massive national debt accumulated thru the years of spending on the military. 11 carrier strike groups guarding the oceans. It has been all show because we never faced a real threat.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Let the swedish navy get her
sree251 · 41-45, M
@LeopoldBloom
If you felt so strongly, why weren't you on it?

I feel strongly about the US Navy for not defending Greta's freedom of navigation in the Mediterranean. The Israeli naval vessel should be blown out of the water the way we depose of pirates.
@sree251 The US Navy isn't responsible for worldwide shipping, dummy. It's responsible for protecting American vessels, and there wasn't even an American on it. Besides, your orange lord and savior wouldn't have ordered a US Navy vessel to protect her, first because she was never in any danger, and second, he's on Israel's side. And let's not even talk about Pete Hegseth; if it had been up to him, he would have ordered the Navy to blow up Greta's ship. Regret voting for the orange pus yet?

I'm sure you were hoping the IDF would kill everyone on board so you could complain about how mean there are. If it had been up to me, I would have let them land and Hamas could have dealt with them. But if they'd been taken hostage, you would have blamed Israel anyway. She just did it for attention, and she definitely succeeded.

I love the expression on her face as she's on her way home and forced to contribute to the burning of fossil fuel.

Seems like a security risk when she's sailing into a war zone and might be smuggling weapons.
@StygianKohlrabi
what matters in genocide is intention. the intent was to destroy the population.

It wasn't nearly big enough to effect the Jewish population. But either way, nobody is defending Hamas.
@BohemianBabe The birth rate in Gaza is equal to the death rate, so if the population stays the same, it's not a genocide. Compare this to the population drops in actual genocides.
@BohemianBabe The people on the Madleen were definitely defending Hamas. I've spoken to people on here whose only problem with Oct. 7 was that it wasn't more effective.

Acting like no one in the pro-Palestinian camp thinks Israel shouldn't exist is naive.

@LeopoldBloom
Antizionism is the belief that the Jewish people aren't entitled to self determination in their historic homeland

No it's not. It's the belief that Israel should be an ethnostate for Jews. If Israel ended the apartheid and gave equal rights to Jews and Palestinians, the Jews would still have self-determination in Israel. But so would Palestinians, which is the real issue.

Hamas has something like 80% support in Gaza, and id so popular in the West Bank, Abbas won't hold elections.

Duh. Israel has created conditions that push Palestinians towards Hamas.
