What are your views about indefinite detention? Are you fine with your government practicing that against its own citizens?

indefinite detention in some countries is a legally permitted but highly controversial practice. While some view it as a necessary measure for maintaining security and order, others criticize it sharply due to the associated human rights violations and the severe impact on the individuals affected. I believe that this practice is incompatible with human rights and human dignity.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Isa3682 Korea and Russia are famous for doing that. Most western countries follow the Magna Carta.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
This is important so I'll say it again, I'll rebel if we have that type of society. Period 💫
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@AthrillatheHunt I'll do whatever I please and you're not going to control me. You sound uppity, go relax over there.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@SatanBurger uppity? You sound racist .

If we're taking the meaning as being detained indefinitely without being charged and convicted then I'm against. I would support detaining for a period sufficient to gather evidence or eliminate imminent threats, such as in the case of terror suspects, but the term should be fixed by a judge, any extension should have to be applied for at the end of the fixed period and it should only be granted if significant progress has been made.

That's literally the definition, no trial or judges involved based on case specifics, no evidence, no reasonable suspicion required either.

What's the verdict in your country? Is it illegal for british citizens but legal in case of foreigners?

The world is not free. You can't go anywhere you want. There are borders and passports for a reason.

Borders are man made constraints placed there to ensure that the liberty of human movement and to protect the state and private property.

I have no idea what Miram's political views are, but I know her history as we've been friends for years. Her grievances against Islamic Fundamentalists are very high.

I should point out in my case, I'm an anarchist. I believe that the state and private property need to be abolished.

No. I'll find ways to rebel 😁

It may be justified to protect the public or the individual prisoner, but never as a punishment.

@SunshineGirl

Indefinite detention is the incarceration of an arrested person by a national government or law enforcement agency for an indefinite amount of time without a trial. The Human Rights Watch considers this practice as violating national and international laws, particularly human rights laws, although it remains in legislation in various liberal democracies.[1]

I provided the standard definition for those who don't understand what it means several times already in the comments. I didn't have to. People can learn what it means by a simple google search.

It means there is no trial prior to detaining them, no specified time limit.

A trial can actually demonstrate there is danger to the public, or not. So ,honestly, I don't see how detaining without a trial would be the same at all in any way.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Miram I apologise, I didn't know the meaning. In which case I can't see any grounds under which it could be justified.
Miram · 31-35, F
@SunshineGirl It is alright. Plenty of things I have no idea what they mean and I am sure you do. My apologies too if I sounded rude.
Moh1992 · 31-35, M
Thank God I was not involved in such thing during my rage period back 2013. 😕
Miram · 31-35, F
@Moh1992 It's very easy to find yourself in this situation.
هدا بلا منهدر على سرائيلين
كلما يصيبوك في منظمة صحية و واعر داخل الحدود، يقدروا يحبسوك بلا اسباب قانونية

وتاني في السعودية و الجزائر في المطارات
Moh1992 · 31-35, M
@Miram hmmm , that is shjtty 😠. It is even worse when the game is being played in the Arabic countries , the way it was played in Algeria and Iraq before .
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
We haven’t had indefinite detention since the Magna Carta centuries ago.
TinyViolins · 36-40, M
It violates our 6th Amendment. It was built into the framework of the country to avoid such lengthy detentions

That's why Guantanamo Bay isn't on US soil. The government needed a way to get around violating the US Constitution following the War on Terror. Held for 2 decades and all for what? Anything they might know has long been considered useless
I'm against it. Without a charge, there should be no detention at all.

@MalteseFalconPunch Yes, looks like they were even trying to do it to US citizens not just immigrants.
Some1somewhere · 36-40, M
You mean prison?

basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
Absolutely against.
It's not a trial by a jury of piers and even sentences for real crimes need to be done by a jury of peers. Indefinite detention brings to mind Chile under Pinochet.
Miram · 31-35, F
@basilfawlty89

Is it legal or illegal in your country? How about for foreigners or illegal immigrant?
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@Miram illegal. We have due process. Before the fall of apartheid it was legal and quite common.
Richard65 · M
Is Guantanamo still open for business...? 🤔

The NAZIS (formerly the Democrats) did that to some of the protestors who walked into the Capitol on Jan 6.
We no longer live in a constitutional republic.

@Reason10 ah well, try insurrection, get punished as an insurrectionist....🙄
