Butker was standing before an audience of students that have just graduated from a religious institution that supports and teaches exactly what he stated in his speech.
To most of us, his comments were abhorrent, but he was speaking to many who faithfully believe that women are subservient to men and their main reason for living is to produce offspring and serve her male master.
He has every right to his opinion, and those of us who disagree, have the right to voice our opposition to his statements.

@JSul3 dude is just butthurt that Caitlin Clark is getting so much attention.

@Ynotisay Many people go to college where they will feel comfortable. Many times, that is a religious institution.
The guy got a lengthy standing ovation for his speech, so they agreed with his statements. 100%? Who knows how many walked away thinking: "What BS was THAT?" Maybe many...maybe a few....maybe none.
Perhaps a 'baby maker' with a degree ranks better than a 'baby maker' who barely made it out of high school.

I don't get your point, but, reading his speech amazed me that anyone today would publicly say what he did

@samueltyler2 I worked at a Baptist conference center for seven summers. I think it became much more conservative since the time that my parents used to lead Bible studies there. Probably about two thirds of my coworkers were the Return-to-the-50’s type, so I’m not really shocked by it I guess. Plenty of Republican lawmakers like Josh Hawley and Tom Cotton probably agree wholeheartedly.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@JPWhoo do you think they really do, or only profess to get elected?
JPWhoo · 36-40, M
@samueltyler2 Well they wouldn’t profess that to get elected unless the people voting for them really did, and if the people voting for them really did why wouldn’t they want that too?

Great message to female graduates…tell them their degree is great, but you are needed in the kitchen.
trollslayer · 46-50, M
@Justice4All he might not have said it quite like that, but it sure sounds like he meant it that way.
Ynotisay · M
@Justice4All He said a lot more than that.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@trollslayer Bwa ha ha! That's because you are indoctrinated to hate and fear ideas that don't dovetail with your current beliefs. Get over yourself. If you don't like the message, nobody is forcing you to listen to, or consider this man's ideas.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Yes, God forbid a grown man speaks to the values and ideals he believes in and suggests them to others.
If its not for you, nobody is forcing you to listen to, or consider this man's ideas.
Grow up.

I don't let liberals think for me.
Corporalcolleague · 61-69, M
@MrBrownstone to clarify, do you let conservatives think for you instead?
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@Corporalcolleague No.
Corporalcolleague · 61-69, M
@MrBrownstone I applaud that...a free thinker. I wish there were more of you, but alas many people simply gravitate to their own echo chamber

So now Conservatives throw their full support behind an athlete living their truth:
Ynotisay · M
@SW-User I'm not a big meme guy but that one is on the money. It's true.

@Ynotisay Just flabbergasted when “Dr.” Laura told LeBron to “stay in his lane!” I would’ve fired back: “Don’t you have some nudes to pose for?”

Does anyone actually take liberals seriously?

Dude is just envious about the attention Caitlin Clark is getting. He thinks NFL kicker > WNBA superstar.
BizSuitStacy · M
People may not like what he said, but the actual issue is that he got doxxed over it.
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
Who?
JPWhoo · 36-40, M
@Quetzalcoatlus Harrison Butker, kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs (a team I hate anyway). He recently made a commencement speech at Benedictine College, the main theme of which was traditional conservative gender roles and all the Republican politics that goes with that (so anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ, etc.).
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
@JPWhoo They couldn’t get someone better than an unknown kicker to do a commencement speech?
JPWhoo · 36-40, M
@Quetzalcoatlus Do you not live in the US? I hate his team, but to be fair, he’s a Super Bowl Champion kicker.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
There is no defence for his speech. He really got up there and diminished the accomplishments of all of the woman who were graduating today.
“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you,” Butker said. The kicker (see what I did there 🤭) is that his Mother is a Medical Physicist.
“How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”
In other words: ladies, forget everything you learned in your four years at university. Forget every article you’ve read, every gruelling assignment you’ve completed and handed in just before the deadline. Forget all that hard work and the thousands of dollars you poured into your degree to pursue your dream, to pursue the person you want to be when you grow up.
Now – have you heard of this new “vocation” called homemaking?

@boudinMan you should take a lesson in the Constitution of your country and what they mean 😂
boudinMan · 61-69, M
@iamonfire696 i don't need to, i understand it fully well.
i mean, i get it, you were triggered by mr. butker's comments and i'm sure you think he should be fired or never should have been allowed to give that speech. i wholeheartedly disagree. even if i don't agree with every word he said.
people like you think you should never be exposed to a thought or idea that goes against your world view. i, on the other hand, think it's good to hear other opinions and to be exposed to as many different views as possible. i assure you, there is a lot of truth in what the man said. thank god he was still allowed to express his views, despite your fantasy of disallowing him that right.

@boudinMan @iamonfire696 The man was invited to speak and he gave the speech he wanted. It may offend some, but the rebuttal to that is to not expose yourself to it, if it offends you.
If you believe he should be sanctioned or punished for speaking his mind, I think you are ridiculous and completely wrong, and yes you don't understand the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

Surprisingly, even the nuns connected to Benedictine Catholic University are criticizing him.
