My Facebook feed is full of people defending Harrison Butker

Apparently the main line of defense is “the media is taking him out of context, distorting his message, if you just listen to his whole speech you’ll see that he’s right.” Because of course liberals let the media do all our thinking for us 🤢🤮

I don't get your point, but, reading his speech amazed me that anyone today would publicly say what he did

@samueltyler2 My main exposure to the speech was an article on Vox. I understand he’s best buds with Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), and it seems like a speech the senator would give if he were asked to speak at a commencement ceremony. Tbh I very much disagree with the speech, but I’m not sure why you would be amazed that anyone would say it.

As for my point, I thought it was pretty straightforward, not much to not get. Basically Butker’s defenders on Facebook are saying that the only reason anyone disagrees with Butker is because the nasty mainstream media, by which we stupid liberal sheep are brainwashed, distorted his message. If instead of being told what the speech was about we just listened to the whole damn speech we would agree with him.

@JPWhoo i read the excerpts and was shocked, then i read the rest and couldn't believe what i read. Wasn't he aware of the female response ttuebo Dobbs, did he really think the 'little woman" belongs in the kitchen making cookies, agree those are my interpretive phrasing, i don't know which upsets me more, that he may actually believe that or believes it is a catchy concept. Then I looked at the institution and realized that many attendees probably agree with him.

The only people that would agree with that part of his speech are those who would like us to return to the 1950s Leave it to Beaver era.

Here is a nice recap of his comments. Did he miss any hot button items?

@samueltyler2 I worked at a Baptist conference center for seven summers. I think it became much more conservative since the time that my parents used to lead Bible studies there. Probably about two thirds of my coworkers were the Return-to-the-50’s type, so I’m not really shocked by it I guess. Plenty of Republican lawmakers like Josh Hawley and Tom Cotton probably agree wholeheartedly.

@JPWhoo do you think they really do, or only profess to get elected?
JPWhoo · 36-40, M
@samueltyler2 Well they wouldn’t profess that to get elected unless the people voting for them really did, and if the people voting for them really did why wouldn’t they want that too?
