thisguy20 · 41-45, M

Pfuzylogic · M
@thisguy20

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout It has been speculated that he actually couldn't grow a beard if he tried. Not to say that he would necessarily want one.
But yeah he would look better.

Ted Cruz at times sports a beard.

In positions of influence or authority - especially politics, visual cues and 1st impressions are important. And establishing public trust is #1 - regardless of whether a candidate intends to keep their promises.
Just as dark suits convey professionalism, leadership, and credibility; being clean shaven establishes trustworthiness, and openness. Whereas human psychology may interpret a beard as concealment.

conformity and the military-look
makes people feel "safe"
makes people feel "safe"
PhoenixPhail · M
@Shadyglow Conformity and the military look makes me run.
Spoiledbrat · F
It seems like that would hard to keep up for busy people.
AmbivalentFriability · 26-30
I read a theory somewhere about beards becoming less popular after 9/11 because of the bearded terrorist stereotype. 🤷♂️
OctoberEyes · 26-30, M
Look no further than the President of the Czech Republic, Peter Pavl. He’s also an ex-military badass, who often calls out Putin for the power-hungry warlord he is.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@OctoberEyes That's a beard I can get behind.
Iwillwait · M
Never trust a Politician with a beard. (Some age old belief)
PhoenixPhail · M
Iwillwait · M
@PhoenixPhail yes.
NerdyPotato · M
Hmm, I've never noticed that, but now you mention it, that seems to be a pattern. I have no clue about the reason, but it's an interesting question.
Pfuzylogic · M
That goes back to Benjamin Harrison in 1893. “Clean cut” is suppose to imply honest. 🥸
Wiseacre · F
@Pfuzylogic truth to it..
Pfuzylogic · M
@Wiseacre Okay but not sure what the demonstrated evidence is.
familyfunguy · 56-60, M
This doesn't answer your question, but if politicians in general had neck beards, that would be a reflection of how hard working and valuable to society they are.
mayguy · 46-50, M
The last one? Hmmm...I don't know about *candidate* but the last elected beardy prez was maybe Garfield (???) And we all know what happened to him 😂
antonioioio · 70-79, M
Because in America you have to get financial backing to get elected and to get that you have to look the part
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
Because in ww1 nen shaved their beards so they could properly wear a gas mask, most American men kept shaving as their morning routine, so after ww1 very few male politicians have beards
PhoenixPhail · M
Maybe because they're so stuck in their ways, nothing ever grows on them.
Vin53 · M
JPWhoo · 36-40, M
The last major presidential candidate to wear a mustache was Thomas Dewey in 1948.
Wiseacre · F
Pierre Trudeau had one for a short while.
Shadyglow · F
I am sure this crowd thinks this is a real thing.
Penny · 46-50, F
Because beards are more unprofessional looking prolly
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Penny · 46-50, F
@LordShadowfire grizzled mountain man on top lol
Briggett · T
They old
Torsten · 36-40, M
bearded people are normally smarter and more honest.. Hence why you dont see many politicians with them
Puppycat23 · F
It looks so unkempt
BizSuitStacy · M
They don't need beards when they can lie through their teeth.
OliRos · 22-25, F
Because women are allowed to vote.
Be honest, you knew it was a bad idea.

Men w facial hair are hiding things . That the psychological truth . That’s why they aren’t trusted..
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@AthrillatheHunt It's true. I'm hiding my double chin.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@LordShadowfire you have more chins than a Chinese phone book. 😆
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Research shows voters consider people with beards less trustworthy
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Women want their politics to be more feminine and thus don't vote for men with beards.
wonkywinky · 51-55, M
Because beards are hideous.
JamesBugman · 56-60, T
Because hair is gross, smells, collects food and germs, and looks terrible.
Torsten · 36-40, M
@JamesBugman there is such things called shampoo, conditioner. Beard oil and balm. If you used such things your hair would not be gross or smell and if you washed it, it would not collect food and germs. Should try it sometime
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Oh, my God. You're right. That's what's missing.
