During ww2 England and America were allies with the soviet union and stalin was even reffered to as uncle Joe

Entwistle · 56-60, M
Churchill shared many views with the Nazi's. He was a total racist too.
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@SW-User because it Was a state called mandatory Palestine. Kinda hard to have leaders when your under the thumb of another countries rule. America Was the same when under Britain's rule. Maybe I am stupid but better than suporting Israels mis treatment of Palestine by claiming it isn't a state and turning a blind eye to said treatment.

@SW-User yep
meJess · F
Churchill also said if Hell declared war on Nazi Germany he would give the Devil a favourable speech in the House of Commons.
That's true though Churchill realized from early on the dangers of Communist expansion and what they would do after the war in Europe. FDR preferred to focus on winning the war and not think about the obvious post war problems. It turned out that it ended up that Truman had to deal with the Soviets.
@Loopysoutherner very true. everyt system has it's pros and cons
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters absolutely. Everything in general has contradictions
spjennifer · 61-69, T
There are times when the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
@SW-User Stupid Sexy Stalin and Daddy Hitler.
SW-User
@BohemianBabe Stalin looks so proud
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@BohemianBabe For some reason I just can't see Stalin as being the girl in that relationship, maybe it's who has the bigger mustache 🤪
Graylight · 51-55, F
This is not revelation. The US had to rely on Stalin's help to defeat the Nazis. Allies aren't necessarily friends. Roosevelt and his administration fed the moniker to the Western press in an effort to soften the image of Stalin in order to help make the medicine of and alliance with Russia palatable.

Neither moniker seems to have any bearing on the other.
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@Graylight you'd be suprised how many people don't know that
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Loopysoutherner Several years ago, no. These days I'm amazed half of us can still tie shoelaces.
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@Graylight all too true
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Hitler thought at some point England and America would understand Stalin was the real enemy and help Germany. Churchill and Roosevelt never trusted Stalin.
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@hunkalove stalin didn't trust anybody so the feeling Was mutual. Churchill also admired mussolini
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
BTW, I think "Uncle Joe" was meant sarcastically, NOT with any actual affection. ;) Maybe as a nod to the "Uncle Sam" concept.
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@ChipmunkErnie I studied history at at school and whilst researching ww2 it completely left out soviet union
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Loopysoutherner Sounds like a poor school if it left the USSR out of WWII history. :(
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@ChipmunkErnie I agree
redredred · M
And Stalin had a paid agent, Alger Hiss, serving as an assistant Secretary of State. Hiss organized the Yalta conference which allowed Stalin to enslave Eastern Europe. The Verona Intercepts, which became public after the Berlin Wall came down proves this.
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@redredred also Churchill was an admirer of mussolini
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
And the NYT was a huge fan of Stalin. Of course a lot of the elite in the US were fans of Hitler too until his nasty genocide was revealed.
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@hippyjoe1955 absolutely so
SW-User
Oh, yes, cuddly Uncle Joe! One of the most notorious mass killers in history and all in thr name of socialism.
SW-User
@Loopysoutherner and being an evil socialist prick!
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@SW-User nothing socialist about him hun
@SW-User Lol. Even if we accept your premise capitalist nations definitely won't win the body count game.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
I doubt our Joe will have a kill count north of 20 million but I may be wrong. Lol
graphite · 61-69, M
Patton said we defeated the wrong enemy.
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
@graphite also churchhill wanted to carry on
beckyromero · 36-40, F
If only Poland had nuclear weapons in 1939. . .
One thing that is interesting in is declassified docs from the CIA stated that they knew as early as the 30s the claims they were making that Stalin was a dictator strong man were bullshit but useful for propaganda. Their own documents state that even under Stalin the governance of the USSR was collective rule.
Just shows that WWII wasn't "the good war."
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
And even then no one trusted them.
Budwick · 70-79, M
Awe! I bet you would like to cuddle up with Putin!
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@Budwick I think you should be telling trump to stick to facts as he wouldn't know the truth of it pulled his wig off
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Budwick Budjack does Trump election campaigning on a WW2 post. = Cultist.

😂
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Burnley123 That would be Loop Meister
WillaKissing · 56-60
Oh, the evils of necessity to defeat a mad man in Hitler.
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@WillaKissing whilst allying with a equal evil man
WillaKissing · 56-60
@Loopysoutherner Actually Stalin killed and sent more people to camps than Hitler did, Stalin was just on the winning side is all.

General George S Patton wanted to keep driving past Germany and into Russia to remove Stalin and that evil. He was relieved of command of the third Army and died in a mysterious unexplained accident! Hmmm Evil Set it up and made it happen.
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@WillaKissing they killed about the same amount of people and were extreme nationalists despite not being from Germany or Russia
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
It was a shotgun marriage though (or a machine gun marriage). Before the fighting started, the Tories hated Stalin more than Hitler.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Yes, war presents political opportunity; and the opportunity to bypass the legislative processes.
Churchill wanted to invade Russia after WW2 but America talked him out of it.
Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@TheSirfurryanimalWales russia was a genuine threat that's why
WandererTony · 56-60, M
The question remains which is the devil and which his bedmates. 😀

Loopysoutherner · 56-60, F
@Driver2 stalin was very paranoid and untrusting with everyone
