BTW, I think "Uncle Joe" was meant sarcastically, NOT with any actual affection. ;) Maybe as a nod to the "Uncle Sam" concept.

@Loopysoutherner No, but I grew up with a mother who was a history major, a grandfather who was a history professor, I read a lot of history, watch documentaries, read books from the period, watch films of thew period, and have listened to literally thousands of radio programs from the period. Plus I'm closer to the period than you are.
