Are Republicans trying to bring about a theocracy in the US ?

It's funny. When JFK ran for office, he was publicly questioned in interviews and debates if he could manage to not be controlled by the Vatican.

And now we have candidates and elected politicians explicitly calling for an erasure of the separation of church and state and the installation of a Christian theocracy.

My question is: whose version of Christianity?

There alot of Catholics, Orthodox, Lutherans, Anglicans, Presbyterians who aren't going to roll with Kandiss Taylor's theotopia.

I've long said this. The next step is religious war. Soft or hard.

@spjennifer Even 5% of the vote means one person in 20 supports her position???? Thats appalling.😷
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@whowasthatmaskedman Oh yes, it certainly is, it also tells us that 5% of our population belongs in a mental institution 😦
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@spjennifer it will depend on who will and can vote, I think. If the majority of people voting hold those opinions, then things could get interesting.
Exactly why I'm in the process of securing an agent to help and advise setting up an apartment in Puerto Vallarta. This time next year, I will no longer be a U.S. citizen. After two years of research, I'm satisfied I can live very comfortably on less than half pf what I spend per. month here.

The folks I've talked to assure me t he people here are very warm, thoughtful, and supportive of American Ex.pats. since we are such an asset to their economy. Everything I need is within a short walking distance, my health care needs will be easily met.

At first I was nervous and somewhat hesitant. I come from a very politically active family, often offering my home as a voting location and the processing of ballots etc. I no longer care to participate as a active citizen. I have no affection or interest in the USA sad to say.
@RodionRomanovitch My main concern is the idea of a theocracy or military coup is that they might destroy our Social Security program then an entire population of low- income elders become totally indigent and without any means of support. Maybe some kind of communal co-op of former U.S citizens living in Mexico, I g uess time will tell.
@Grateful4you Good luck in Puerto Vallarta, I've been researching the South of France myself, hopefully will make the change in the next couple years.
@GoDodgers My best to the both of us. I know there are quite a few Americans who are well prepared survivalist who will remain in the U.S. but off the radar. I know of one in particular, he has an amazing underground house you absolutely cannot see until almost inside. It was decades in the making and you would think being underground it would be dark and a bit oppressive. Actually it's very light and airy, Although rarely needed, he has a woodstove used mainly for cooking. The house is such that it maintains around a 70 "something" temp year around. Natures insulation is the cheapest and most efficient insulation. Mark has a food surplus for at least two year plus period.

I can see where some of the Red States will attempt this but I don't see it happening Nationally. The far right Evangelicals have been wanting to do this now for decades since the "Moral Majority" and finally are gaining some limited ground but the younger generations care little for religion so them getting a true Evangelical into the White House is unlikely as the more time passes the more religions shrink in standing, all of them. We'll see what happens in November but I suspect the Republicans are in for a bit of a shock if SCOTUS keeps on the same path of repealing long standing rights...
room101 · 51-55, M
@spjennifer A little ironic but, from your lips to God's ears.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@room101 Yeah, agreed, I think the biggest mistake they made was to align themselves with tRump who is definitely not a Christian by any means but he was the guy the Republicans thought they could win with so the Evangelical faction had no choice but to go along with it and in fact they made one of their own his running mate in Pence. Anyone foolish enough to think that tRump is a Christian will soon enough butt their heads up against his true reality as a conman and snake oil salesman of the lowliest order.
room101 · 51-55, M
@spjennifer Yeah I don't see that happening at all. Six years (seven if we start counting from when the orange sphincter announced that he was going to run for office) and they still haven't seen what a conman he is and how removed he is from Christianity? Even the Evangelical bastardisation of Christianity?

Personally, I go with the old adage "birds of a feather, flock together".

They are ALL just like him. So will continue to support him.

I agree with what you said in your original reply above, it's the younger generations that will be at the vanguard of stopping the GOP and all who sail in her.

Oh, that's just the start.
Carla · 61-69, F
Oh, yes they are.
Graylight · 51-55, F
I think spokesperson Lauren Beobert has made their intention exceedingly clear.

@Carla I'm surprised they aren't casting her out for "wearing red, like a whore" 🤪
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@Graylight Hopefully at some point the lights will come on and Lowrent Boozeburp will be exposed for the complete fraud she is, she doesn't believe a word of the religious claptrap she spews in order to get votes 🤪

Many do. They feared Sharia law, as if that was about to ever happen, but are okay with their view of Christian law

SCROTUS declared Stare Decisis null and void so because the Constitution does not say “no separation of church and state” it’s anyone’s guess how far this will go.

SCROTUS already decided public money can fund religious indoctrination, and prayer sessions by public officials in authority can never be coercive in a “bad” way.

Finally, SCROTUS had declared that it is inappropriate to view culture and tradition past 1780 as a way to determine ambiguous constitutional issues.

So it’s really up to the minority…again.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@Human1000 lol, we used to sing the Knack's song My Sharona as My Scrotus, they really are acting like scrotes aren't they 😖
Human1000 · M
@spjennifer I can’t really write it any other way now.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
They are the party of the Christotaleban.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Crazywaterspring ....... and with their very own Supreme Council.
Northwest · M
I don't think so, but it's a definitely a side effect of the GOP giving control to the Evangelists. They reap what they sow.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@Northwest I don't know that the GOP in as much "gave control" to the Evangelicals but it's like they made a deal with the devil in order to retain power or remain relevant. I think that if the GOP again suffers a defeat next election, their hold on the party will lessen, hopefully...
Northwest · M
@spjennifer As of the 1980 election, the GOP cannot win any elections, without Evangelical support, and that's clearly reflected in their policies, the asswipes they nominate to the Supreme Court, not to mention the wars they get us into.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@Northwest Agreed, that was when the Repugs decided to let the Moral Majority into the Party and it's gone downhill from there and got even worse when they let the Tea Party loons in too, wonder how long it will be till the KKK joins them too, or maybe it's already happened! 😖 "Is you is, or is you ain't mah constituency!"
Scribbles · 36-40, F
I think some kind of soft or hard religious war is on the horizon in America. Too many hardcore extremist Christians threw their heart and soul into trump's presidency and now they they have SCOTUS power they will push for as much as they can get out of it. And they are crawling out of the woodwork like bugs to be candidates for office and running on things like homophobia, only Christians can be teachers, no separation of church and state, etc.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@Scribbles time to knock them down.
Bobert literally said that the church should run the government so yes.
Scribbles · 36-40, F
Sure looks that way.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Probably, many do. I suppose not all.
They forget the kingdom, that Christianity talked about, claimed to not be of the earth.
In reality they care little about being moral and more about being in control.
They want power to do as they wish and a theocracy would give that to them.

The other party wants control too, they just go about it different...

It isn't a Nation for the people any longer... it's pick a side and don't question your side nor hold them accountable , but excuse and defend that party no matter what they do.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Justmeraeagain 'The other party wants control too' ...... well yes of course , but at least they go about it by democratic means. And they're not in the business of taking away people's rights.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@RodionRomanovitch I don't agree with that , but I don't wish to argue.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Justmeraeagain I'm not looking to argue. I agreed with everything else you said , I just don't get the both sides-ism when one is demonstrably worse.
Something like that. They're more of an ideological movement, settler colonizers at war against humanists.

For what purpose? Religion isn't going to make us more humane. Science leads to better devices of mass extermination. I'm not sure what we're trying to accomplish?

Liz Cheney did it
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@MarineBob How did she do that ?
Yes, it would definitely seem so. And they become less subtle about it daily.
Carla · 61-69, F
@bijouxbroussard subtitles no longer necessary.
The simple answer is yes.

Nobody is.
Democracy is gone.
