Biden is trying to curry favor with his base, but the executive order doesn't seem to actually accomplish much.
Basically it's an air sandwich

@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays Shouldn't we at least wait for it to be signed, before speculating on whether it serves a purpose or not?
This kind of attitude is only helping Republicans
* And I'm not even American, nor Biden's fan, for the record

@HoraceGreenley "air sandwich" is correct. He needs a permanent solution if he wants to accomplish something.

It’s easy to answer questions like this.. All you have to do is ask if the opposite party were in place of power doing the same thing to usurp what was placed in.. If they would be screaming that the person was a tyrant and using their power to get their way…. If the answer is yes.. Which it most likely would be, then yes it’s an abuse of power.. but I also notice a lot of people believe in double standards these days so.. 🤷♀️

He would OVERRIDE and possibly be OVERSTEPPING. And it would ENSURE such rights NATIONWIDE, unless, of course, someone was paying an INSURANCE company. You probably think SPELL ING is correct as two words! Back to grade school with you! 😂

In the 70s and 80s Joe Biden was in favor of overturning Roe V Wade. Furthermore it wouldn’t work because his executive order would go back to the Supreme Court and be ruled unconstitutional
This will have to be decided by the states until the Democrats have a super majority in the Senate

The Scotus overstepped the role of Constitutional interpreters when they made a politically motivated decision despite the majority opinion being well known. This is righting the ship.
Yes, women shouldn't have to spend 10 years in prison for having a miscarriage this can happen to any woman during their pregnancy. Women should have a right to have an abortion if they do not want to have children. If this executive order does not override Roe vs. Wade don't be surprised by the number of babies in dumpsters or buried in their backyards

@Souls I'm for more happy, healthy, babies being born to happy, healthy, mommy's and daddy's. But there is a difference between my opinion and the freedom to choose what's best for oneself, so i've never voted on or against abortions i think the goal shouldn't be about preventing women from not having babies, but in convincing them to have babies.

I agree, but everyone's situation is different people may choose to get an abortion for financial reasons, health problems, or rape each its own but I absolutely feel like women should have a right to do whatever they wish with their bodies

Your SCOTUS steps all over democracy!

There's only so much that an executive order can do. It really only applies to organizations governed by the executive branch of the federal government. I may very well be mistaken here, but an XO doesn't have any authority over state governments at all.
He's hardly doing that, from what I understand. He's really not even set to "overrule" Dobbs, but it's still a good question.
@Lostpoet Sighs. Everyone is likely doing their own "conspiring" on this one, but I think it's a mistake to figure there's an overarching conspiracy behind the whole thing where one "side" is pulling the strings.
Roe was doomed, but my own opinion is everyone is scrambling to react to the timing of its demise at the hands of SCOTUS.
Sure, Biden is scrambling to do something to make it look like he cares about the issue, but I don't buy for a minute that he wanted to be put in this situation, or even that the libs set up the Dobbs opinion for political reasons.
It seems to me like aside fromaybe SCOTUS Justices, everyone here is reacting to the timing of this thing.

It's good for now, but not a solution. He needs to find a way to codify Roe v Wade as a right. Without the numbers from cogress or the senate, he won't succeed.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
He is using his role to uphold what is almost certainly the democratic mandate of the majority.
Lostpoet · M
@SunshineGirl I've always felt like the Government should have little influence on how states are run. It should be the people in each state that get to vote what kind of laws they need.

Supreme Court decision puts it back into the hands of the electorate. He’s elected, and within his powers.

Supreme court ruled on it let congress do their job

I think in this case it's a good thing. Overturning Roe vs. Wade is a very dangerous step in the wrong direction
