Why do Americans avoid a simple grid to divide their voting districts and public elections?

Why are Americans afraid of democracy?
Around 60% of the county do not like Republican policies. 70 to 80% of gun owners agree there should be more regulations on guns. If everyone's vote was counted the Republicans would not win elections so they do absolutely anything, legal or not, to prevent Democrats from voting. Gerrymandering, Suppression, Vote Harvesting, removing voting stations, creating all day lineups on the hottest days, making laws that prevent people from helping people in line, even preventing giving out water, allowing people to supervise these lines with rifles, signing students up to vote in the summer when they are not at school, not allowing people with similar names to vote, not allowing an Indian Community to vote because they get their mail at mail boxes rather than at a residence, trying to stop mail in ballots, etc, etc,etc.

@Pitchblue so you want to make it like that-. I said I got that.
jackson55 · M
@Pitchblue It was democrats that started the redistriting wars long ago. And to their advantage of course.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@jackson55 so both parties, it's bipartisan. I got that.

A grid doesn't work. Constituency boundaries have to be regularly reviewed so as to keep all constituencies roughly equal in population.

Here's a link to the independent public body that does it in England: https://boundarycommissionforengland.independent.gov.uk/about-us/

The US has no such commission, instead they have political appointees who do it with the result that the boundaries get drawn so as to favour particular parties. This is called gerrymandering, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerrymandering.

@Changeisgonnacome You high or something?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@OggggO I alternate between thinking she's high and thinking she's a troll. Then I start to think, why not both?
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@OggggO just mathematically correct. A grid does solve the un democracy problem. You just want to keep the problem. No kidding!
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Fear of the unknown. They don't know what it is.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@MarkPaul obviously. They're claiming mathematics doesn't do that.

The population does not have uniform distribution. A grid system of voting districts would just be a different kind of broken.

@Changeisgonnacome It may surprise you to learn this, but there are people who have put a lot of very hard thought regarding fair voting districts, and none of them use grids, because that's an overly simplistic band-aid that doesn't actually work.

@OggggO a City based grid that's fair is one way. Obviously not for you. There are no ways.

@Changeisgonnacome Please learn to read.

Americans:. You have to be the most ignorant person ever. You really are uneducated about America, so you're a Putin minion and a communist.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Americans in general are not afraid of that. It's American politicians, gerrymandering the districts in order to receive the most votes, in a maneuver that should be illegal, but somehow isn't.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@LordShadowfire can't. Can't. Can't. No kidding. Can't won't don't and haven't by God?
