Why do Americans avoid a simple grid to divide their voting districts and public elections?

Why are Americans afraid of democracy?

Around 60% of the county do not like Republican policies. 70 to 80% of gun owners agree there should be more regulations on guns. If everyone's vote was counted the Republicans would not win elections so they do absolutely anything, legal or not, to prevent Democrats from voting. Gerrymandering, Suppression, Vote Harvesting, removing voting stations, creating all day lineups on the hottest days, making laws that prevent people from helping people in line, even preventing giving out water, allowing people to supervise these lines with rifles, signing students up to vote in the summer when they are not at school, not allowing people with similar names to vote, not allowing an Indian Community to vote because they get their mail at mail boxes rather than at a residence, trying to stop mail in ballots, etc, etc, etc.

@Pitchblue so that's why you do it-. To arrive at what we see in reality. Okay! Carry on.
@Changeisgonnacome Voting districts are drawn up to exclude voters. To put all of one parties votes into one district making it impossible for that party to win the State. In Florida they are allowing the Governor, DeSantis to draw the districts. In some cases neighbors won't vote in the same district.

@Pitchblue It was democrats that started the redistriting wars long ago. And to their advantage of course.
