He wanted to be like Putin, Saddam, current Egyptian president (whom he called "my favorite dictator") or the Saudi kings so bad but the US constitution just doesn't allow it. Too bad in other countries presidents can tailor institutions according to their own needs. My county's president (Egypt) for example literally edited the institution in 2018 ish so he stays in office till 2030 Putin style, via a fake unauthentic referendum.
