Well in fact it's quite the opposite - it tends to be the right wing followers who are brain washed - they hang onto the words given out on biased websites and other right-wing sources, they tend to be entirely unfamiliar, nay, against science and facts, indeed will argue against any and all evidence. And, if that were not enough many of them are poorly educated, barely literate and a fair number are into conspiracy theories. Liberals on the other hand tend to be much better educated, more academically literate, more able to make discerning judgements based on an array of sources and facts and engage in critical thinking rather than believing clearly biased and poorly composed websites and media.

People have all kinds of motives to believe what they believe. The formers of opinions know that and use that to form opinions. Funny little note I saw yesterday. Those who most fervently believe in vaxes are also the ones who most fervently support Ukraine. IOW they are the ones who believe the official narrative without questioning it. The exact opposite is true of the unvaxed. They by in large do not support Ukraine. Likely for similar reasons. They do not believe the official narrative.

@bradhuskers Not quite agreed. (But at least we have a place to start now) At the time of the original story, the claims were refuted on the basis that there "was no evidence". Now there is a difference. That supposed MI6 file on Trump in a Moscow hotel story was also out there. And also refuted due to lack of evidence at the time. Once the bona fides of this laptop are established, then and only then will it become evidence of wrongdoing. And whether that links back to Biden in a way that will stick in court is another matter.
Now adressing your closing comments. The fact that anyone anywhere goes into politics of any colour makes them suspect to me. Politics as a profession is akin to a magic act. Only the politicians take the rabbits out of your hat, then cook and eat them themselves. So they ALL lie, all the time. But people still go to Vegas to see Penn and Teller, who do give you a peek behind the curtain at times.
What actually happens in running a country is more like a trick surfing act. The economy of a nation at the time is the wave and the politician surfs it as best he can, pulling what tricks the wave allows. But make no mistake, the economy is in control. Not the politician. The politician can try to look like he is controlling things by messing with interest rates, the money supply or tariffs. But that only unbalances the surfer in the long run and he gets dumped by the wave.
So all politicians lie, even with the best intentions.
I just prefer my politicians making promises about better education, health care justic and equality then offering me tax cuts so I can afford to upgrade my security and put bars on my windows.,😷
