What i don't understand is the ancestors of the people kneeling fought to be free ,to get up off their knees, now these idiots are back on their knees.Do they even know where they came from? If i was a black man you can bet I'd never kneel for any reason. I think kneeling is worse.

@LordShadowfire No i told you you were wrong being misinformed is different than lying . You never answer my questions why should i answer yours?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@kodiac I did, though. I told you that kneeling in front of the flag was about police brutality. If you're going to tell me that I literally don't know the motivation of people with whom I've spoken, I'm fucking done.

@LordShadowfire Have a nice day🙃
Graylight · 51-55, F
A flag is a symbol. Maybe it's our misplaced worship of a cloth of colors and not adherence to the principles of stands for that's helped lead us astray.
TexChik · F
Kneeling of course. Disrespecting the flag and what it stands for is one thing, exuberant patriotism is quite another.
TexChik · F
@justanothername then let them go earn that in Mexico , or Europe . It’s not going to happen . 🙄
justanothername · 51-55, M
@TexChik Go and earn what in Mexico? Are you saying all sports stars should go to Mexico?
TexChik · F
@justanothername you said that living in the Us had nothing to do with the kneelers becoming millionaires . I’m calling Bullsh*t on your statement
TheGOPHateAmerica · 26-30, M
Kneeling isn't disrespectful in any way so the 2nd one. The US flag code itself doesn't mandate standing but does say monetizing the image of the flag is disrespectful so there's that
4meAndyou · F
I would say that both are disrespectful. I was an army brat, and I must have watched the soldiers blow taps and take down the flag and fold it a thousand times.
The flag could NOT touch the ground. If it did...if it was soiled, or torn, or damaged, it had to be replaced.
Rules on how to properly fly the flag were established in June 1923, when the National Flag Conference met in Washington. Its members created the Flag Code, which states that "the flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing."
The American Legion passed a resolution about flag retirement ceremonies in 1937, and they've been an important ritual ever since. According to the resolution, "The approved method of disposing of unserviceable flags has long been that they be destroyed by burning."
Ceremony Specifics
Every year on June 14, Americans celebrate Flag Day. Not surprisingly, it's considered the most appropriate day to hold flag disposal ceremonies, which are often held at night.
During an American Legion ceremony, participants stand aligned in two parallel rows about 20 feet apart, facing each other. A small fire burns beyond the rows of members, opposite the Legion commander.
The flags that are no longer serviceable are presented to Legion commanders, who inspect them to make sure they should, in fact, be discarded. When it's agreed upon that they've reached their current worn state due to proper service of tribute, memory and love, a color guard presents the colors and a chaplain offers prayers.
As the crowd salutes, the flag detail dips the retired flags into kerosene and puts them on a rack over the fire. A bugler sounds "To the Colors."
Flags don't always have to be disposed of with such pomp and circumstance. If you can't drop yours off with one of the aforementioned groups, you can do your own small ceremony — as long as it's still held in a dignified manner.
According to the VFW, you first need to fold the flag in its customary manner. Check out the video below if you don't know how.
https://www.defense.gov/Explore/Features/Story/Article/2206946/how-to-properly-dispose-of-worn-out-us-flags/
When you start your fire, make sure it's big enough to fully burn the flag before you put the folded flag on it. Next, salute the flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance or hold a moment of silence.
Once the flag has been fully consumed, make sure to safely extinguish the fire — and of course, make sure you're conforming to local and state fire codes and ordinances before doing any of this!
Other veterans service organizations say people can also bury the folded flag in a dignified box, or recycle them — an option that's common for flags made of synthetic or nylon material that can be hazardous if burned. Some groups, including the nonprofit Stars For Our Troops, carefully cut embroidered stars out of the flags and give them to veterans with a note that reminds them that their service won't be forgotten.

White supremacists believe blacks have no right to protest in any form, so that’s who has a problem with kneeling, Period.
Incidentally, kneeling was a compromise suggested by a veteran.
Green Beret Nate Boyer, speaking with Colin K, offered kneeling as an alternative to remaining seated during the anthem. He didn’t anticipate that anyone could take offense to kneeling, as it is considered a sign of respect under any other circumstances. He just didn’t realize how racist so many people are in this country.

@bijouxbroussard Yes! Thank you! I couldn't remember the man's name.

My husband, a veteran, would think the truck thing to be worse and while he does think one should stand for the anthem, he said he wouldn't want it to be forced on people.

FFS Kneeling, it has achieved nothing at all, infact it increases racism

@Northwest I never spoke of penalties. I don’t think someone kneeling should be punished. I’m only saying that according to this they’re both just as bad. Meaning if someone is ok with smoking out the flag with diesel fumes, they should be ok with people kneeling. However, you get so many people desecrating the flag in other ways, thinking they’re a patriot, then get mad at someone who kneels, not realizing that person considers themselves a patriot as well. People don’t realize the people they’re mad at are just the other side of the coin. That the way they interpret things isn’t law and therefore someone who simply doesn’t do things the way they like it aren’t criminals. A lot of people I knew would get upset and use the “people fought and died” argument. Then a friend of mine decided to speak with a mutual friend who was a soldier about it. He simply said I fight for people to have the right to kneel in protest if they want. We are not a tyrannical country and looking at someone who is using this as a form of protest, that’s their right.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@GERRI White Americans consider this to be disrespectful of the Anthem and Flag of their country and what they represent
So the question that no one is asking is Why are some black athletes choosing to kneel when the US National Anthem is being played?
Because Black Americans believe they are disrespected by America (Americans and the media) so why should they stand and support a flag anthem that doesn’t support them?
That’s my take on it.

My favorite is wearing a flag thong bikini, or Daisy Dukes, while riding in said truck.

@SW-User Maybe. But I cant fault the words of the Constitution, The Bill of Rights and those at the base of the Statue of Liberty. Nor can I fault the great words of Lincoln, Roosevelt, Washington, Jefferson and others. To me that is the ideal of America. And it still lives.. It just doesnt run things any more.

I dunno. People display it in different ways. As long as they are really respecting it, then it is what it is. However, burning it is the biggest disrespect in my book. As angry as I get with this country, I could never bring myself to burn the flag
justanothername · 51-55, M
@AthrillatheHunt I think that constant racism feeds peoples thoughts towards politics and the more that people see the effects of actions and decisions that create really bad outcomes such as unjustified treatment of members of the public by police and in some cases the armed forces or just numerous cases of unjustified treatment the more in encourages them to voice their opinions by way of seeking political change when voting for a new President.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@AthrillatheHunt You say " a few bad apples.." I would say the entire mindset of the Police force MUST change. There are too many recorded examples of unwarranted police brutality on Youtube to count... in the USA. Yes, the US, not South America, not Thailand, Rwanda... the US.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@justanothername dude the Hutus and Tutsis have nothing on the way Police treat people here in America. They have to change their ENTIRE mindset. The brutality and violence is overwhelming. I see it everyday with my own eyes when I look for it on YouTube. We must defund the police so that peace can be achieved.

Funny thing is, before these people started the whole kneeling thing, they literally asked actual military veterans what would be a good way to protest without being disrespectful of the American flag. People who served our country told them that kneeling would be a good way of demonstrating while still being respectful of the American flag.
I don't know who the hell is claiming otherwise, but I'm going to go ahead and side with the folks who joined the armed forces and fought for my country.
