A week from now this will all be over.

Looking at the history of America and overlaying it with the History of Trump, I dont see a real issue. The things that made America what it is, great or not, are not now and have never been anything to do with what made Trump what he is, no matter what you might think that is. There will always be the greedy and always be the ignorant. There will always be the fanatics. But the sheer weight of the American people will not be turned by such people..
Now America does have real problems and I am not saying it will triumph. I do think its best days are past.. But 20 years from now Trump will be a footnote and a bad memory, compared to the real issues.😷
G00GLE · 22-25, M
This will not be a footnote. January 6th is the day that democracy was called into question by a mob of under educated and radicalized Americans, while the president stood idly by and called them "special".

This is Hitler levels of blind devotion.
G00GLE · 22-25, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Most of these are taught in German history classes. Certainly not footnotes.
Ynotisay · M
@whowasthatmaskedman All pre-internet though. I think that's the difference.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@G00GLE Absolutely right. And the lesson was that if the fanatics and things push, the community MUST push back and hard. And thats what we are now seeing. People are speaking out and the legal system is kicking into gear.😷
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
I like to think well of people yet still cannot get my head around the 70 million + votes Trump got.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@PhilDeep yes and this rhetoric inflaming the disenfranchised will obviously play well.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
@PhilDeep it does make the mind boggle ☹️
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Dlrannie yes the leftist is always a head scratcher
This time will not be a footnote, even if the man someday is. We learned a lot about ourselves through the Trump years, even if some people can’t bring themselves to acknowledge it.
@Peapod Scary isn't it? 🥺
Peapod · 61-69, F
@splishsplash Yes it is. It hurts my heart.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard I hope you are right.😷
I'm thinking it deserves at least a chapter, if not a couple like the Civil War.

70 million plus Americans fell for a con man who fomented armed rebellion, and even after he did it, millions still support him.

This is, IMO, the kind of thing that should be studied and not forgotten lest it be repeated.

We need that, because just a brief footnote falsely saying that Trumpists wanted to "Make America Great" instead of talking about their selfishness, greed, dishonesty and hatred and contempt for other humans, would be a far worse "white wash" than the lost cause narrative.

We're not out of the woods yet, and we're not even done with testing the victims of the first wave of Trump's maskless thugs, and hopefully the number of dead Americans won't continue to grow, but I think we've seen enough that it should never be forgotten, nor should the leaders of Trumpism be forgiven.

They knew exactly what they were doing and many of them, before they drank that kool aid, are in tape predicting it.
@PhilDeep Thankfully, I'm just a keyboard warrior and the only blood I'm likely to spill is virtual blood on SW. And even that usually makes me squeamish.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MistyCee I agree. This is a dark chapter in politics for America. Bringing out the Bogeyman of Hitler and Nazi germany , I do think we have to say America does seem to have answered the call boardly and the reasonable majority are not standing silent. I do believe Ameeicans will pass the test Germany failed.😷
@whowasthatmaskedman I'm thinking we may have just answered a first question and the test isn't over yet, tbh.
Ynotisay · M
Without the elimination of the policies that led to the breakdown, particularly the tipping of the scales to the wealthy, I don't think we'll ever regain the balance that's necessary to move forward successfully. Legislation is what it will take.
kodiac · 22-25, M
How many of the trump haters here returned or refused the stimulus checks that trump made possible ,for everyone not just his supporters?
kodiac · 22-25, M
@Mindful Ok that has nothing to do with our conversation and my parents died when i was 4 years old ,i inherited nothing i simply look around me . Where was paying taxes even brought up in this comversation? I try my best to stay away from these trump hater post so i'll be going elsewhere .
Mindful · 56-60, F
@kodiac paying taxes is how democrats support people in lower income brackets.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@Mindful I'm sure you are a good person and i shouldn't get involved in politics . I hope we can all put this aside and work together ,it's our only hope✌️
LeoWulf · 36-40, M
In my view Trump said things that riled up his supporter base but it's wrong to say that he asked them to attack members of Congress. He ain't that stupid.
The impeachment 2.0 might make Pelosi, Democrats and Left wing voter base happy but it's not gonna heal the nation.
At this point I doubt if the Progressive wing of the Democratic party wants any unity but any more chaos is definitely going to cause problems for the incoming administration.
Even Biden and Kamala don't seem to be in favor of impeachment 2.0
Ynotisay · M
@LeoWulfI just looked at your posts because I smelled 'real American" sucking at the fear teat. Yep. I was right. Block. No more patience.
LeoWulf · 36-40, M
@LeoWulf Haha, @Ynotisay blocked me cos he/she didn't like my reply 😂 Snowflakes must never participate in any political debates.
Mindful · 56-60, F
Please stop saying things like blacks have equal treatment by whites. They do not. If that were true, can you imagine your best friend —married to.a black person AND you would be OKAY with it !! ?? Or does that idea bother you? Would you be okay with someone in your family marrying a black person? An educated, kind, very dark black person? @LeoWulf
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I still think we should remember this. Even 20 years from now and not just as a footnote.

1992 was a very good example of why we should remember this! Ross Perot was very close to him, so much so that it's frightening even if he lost.

We need to remember these types of people or else it WILL happen again! 😔
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@DeWayfarer stop! You are killing me!
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@MasterLee hmmm maybe I should keep it up then? 🤔
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Human1000 · M
I think right wing domestic terrorism may be here to stay.
@Mindful You know how it would’ve turned out. Just imagine every police encounter with a black man where the cop decided he “felt unsafe”. Times about 200. 🙁
Mindful · 56-60, F
@bijouxbroussard can’t stand that people say there’s no racism ( not saying violence on any side is okay)
@Mindful Most of the people who say that (by and large) are not its target. So they really wouldn’t know. 🤔
StoopKid · 31-35, M
We peaked a long time ago. We're headed down.
SammyJo · 51-55, F
Hopefully it'll act as a catalyst for the change that is sorely needed...

Nah, the best years aren't behind. Ok, so you're a teeny bit older than me but don't we all think our time is the best time? The best music? The best people? The best movies?

Each generation longs for what it has had in those early years....

Things'll get better. Just take a little time, that's all...

SJD xx
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@SammyJo I sincerely hope you are right. America the land is a very resilient country, in spite of what some people have done to it. And many people will have good lives there. Mostly those who will work and can adapt. Thats how America was built after all.
SammyJo · 51-55, F
@whowasthatmaskedman The problem with America, and I speak as a person from the UK and we have had the same mindset, is that a large part of the population believe that their country is 'all that', y'know? They think that the world owes them a living....and, over time, the realisation to that population that they're not the big cheese anymore....and the country calms down....before the country can rebuild itself into a worldbeater again, albeit in a different way than that originally noted for....

It'll happen....it always does....

MasterLee · 56-60, M
So we need to gear up for the biden impeachments. New target.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MasterLee Now you know better than that on my watch..😷
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@whowasthatmaskedman you haven't got a watch.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MasterLee Funny story there. I actually have quite a collection. Gifts from appreciative people over the years. Rolex, Tag, Breitling, Omega etc.. Its a custom to give gifts in Asia and the Middle East. I wear the Omega. But the rest will make a nice inheritance one day..😷

@SW-User Yes. I do. So was Senator Joe McCarthy in his day. He wont be forgotten. And at the time he made a lot of noise and ruined a few lives.. But didnt change the course of the country in the long run.
I guess you couldnt say the same of Abe Lincoln. Or could you? Sure, those slaves are free.. (sort of) and the nation is not divided (sort of).. And before people accuse me of Attacking Lincoln I am not. I am making the point that the push of the general population will always overcome one man and his fanatical followers. 😷
@SW-User Unfortunately, it is. That’s why this won’t be just a footnote, ultimately. It’s part of what this country still is. And it’s nothing new. We just haven’t gotten past it the way we thought we had. 🙁
Rose0415 · 36-40, F
Unfortunately, Trump supporters have it programmed in their minds that Trump did not lose the election fair and square. So while Trump will officially not be president any longer, you have to believe that "they" are not through and will attempt to avenge their master.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@sunsporter1649 The bestest most stable prezedent in all of heestory... his uncle used to work at MIT, you know.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@MarkPaul Did moneybags joey ever have a job?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@sunsporter1649 Did Hidin' Insurrectionist Baby-trump ever have a real job? His uncle used to work at MIT, you know.
I think we need to regulate the internet just like we had to regulate radio and television with the FCC. We have not changed with the times and it has allowed terrorist groups to organize. Our security departments have egg of their faces and need a serious investigation.
I do think its best days are past..
I don't believe this. We are still a relatively young country that should be allowed to have growing pains > coming to terms with our past issues of racism.
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
20 years from now we’ll be teleporting to the past to be in on the great Capitol insurrection just so we can troll........wait!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Quetzalcoatlus Makes you think....Doesnt it??😷
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
LOL, but you support moneybags joey and how he makes his money, right?
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
I'm no expert on this but as I see it there are economic issues and social issues. When the social issues affect the economy then change happens. I don't care Trump not his minions having much effect on the economy. Health issues have been infinitely more of an issue.
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
You make many very good points
