<<Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, has told associates that he believes President Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party, according to people familiar with his thinking.>>

Yes, I believe he should be impeached. I don't care if they never send it to the Senate, but it needs to be acknowledged that Trump incited a riot and encouraged sedition.
I do think Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley and Kevin McCarthy need to be expelled from Congress for sedition.
@Pfuzylogic It sure was ! And the fact that a Yale graduate who studied Constitutional Law had to be reminded that a private company’s refusal to publish him is not a “free speech” issue
was hilarious. 🤣
@bijouxbroussard The more I hear of Josh Hawley, the more I question whether he actually went to Yale Law, or did his daddy just buy him a degree?
@independentone A good point. 🤔
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
He will be impeached. Because Impeachment takes place in Congress and the Democrats have the numbers there. But it wont go to the Senate until after the 20th, when the "new" Senate sits.At that point a Senate Trial to remove him will be unnecessary. But thats not the important part. What WILL happen is that with a tie breaker VP vote they can strip Trump of his Presedential pension, privileges and the RIGHT TO HOLD FUTURE FEDERAL OFFICE. So there will never be a sequel. And you know what? The Republican leadership will be quietly relieved about that.
The the REAL Trump fun starts..😷
OggggO · 36-40, M
@whowasthatmaskedman That's if the tiebreaker is even needed. Romney voted to convict last time and I'm certain he will again.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@OggggO I agree. And he may not be alone. Trump stands to draw around a $Million annually in benefits from the nation as a past President. And there is no doubt the Democrats dont want his to have that. If they get their way all up, I am sure the Secret Service will have the problem of how to keep a security detail on him while he is in jail. That is the one thing Impeachment cant remove.😷
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@whowasthatmaskedman He won't be going to jail , and if you're right about the censure thing then he will lose his secret service detail too.

The Republican congress members (some of whom he just tried to get killed) will probably just stall impeachment procedings in the Senate, and it'll delay Biden's cabinet appointments, making the exchange of power even more of a clusterfuck. There's a provision in the 14th Amendment though, that lets Congress bar a politician from running again if they "give aid or comfort to" insurrectionists. You could debate over whether what Trump did actually fits that description, but you'd only need a simple majority in both houses of Congress. The Democratic Party has that right now, plus some Republicans who would vote on their side.

Trump incited insurrection. People who went to the Capitol in DC and engaged in violent lethal insurrection. A number of those people have been arrested and will face consequences for their actions. Trump should face consequences for his actions as well. It remains to be seen what will happen to Trump.
Pfuzylogic · M
For trying to murder the Congress?
I think impeachment should be only the first step. I do like that many companies are withdrawing campaign support for those that didn’t certify the election.

@Pfuzylogic there's a story reported here today that Deutsche Bank are to withdraw their services from The Trump Organisation. They owe Deutsche £340m and that was the only bank that bailed them out in the 90s when bankrupt.

@SW-User
I saw that.
The dominoes are falling one by one against him and his supporters.

Considering the first impeachment was correct.

He called and threatened other states to change votes.

He invited insurrectionists and lit the flame. He even offered to walk with them to the capitol but they couldn’t get a strong enough golf cart to take him.

He definitely should be impeached, as not only did he very strongly encourage the group to go after the Capital... he said he'd (and reported wanted to) join them... but staff wouldn't let him.

I kinda wish they did, as then we could see if he was upset by what was going on, or happy and making a big show in the middle of all it.

Also, supposively he knew what was happening and seemingly did nothing to try to stop it, and the pentagon refused to let states help for hours until VP Pense who was in the middle of all it, could reach out and tell at them... but Trump was watching and could have reached out at any time, while Pense was a little busy protecting himself.

As some Republicans have stated there is no action more impeachable then physically sending people after democracy.

And yes, he'll absolutely be impeached as all they need is a majority.

Will Senate convict Trump? Which needs 2/3rd vote... probably not... which is probably partly because he's about to get kicked out anyways.

But I've also read that to prevent someone from holding public office again, precedent holds that all they need is a majority for that... I could see some Republicans going for that, and getting a majority for that.
Yes. It's something that must take place.

Despite the lack of time before the hand-over, no president should be permitted to get away with sedition or breaking the law. If he did it would set a precedent for increasing levels of corruption, insurrection, erosion of democracy, and decadence.

I expect that this time it would succeed because the Republican Party will lose a lot of political support if it doesn't reform and show that it supports the rule of law and democracy.

Sure, Trump's heartland will remain loyal to him, but on their own, they are not numerous enough to hold the whole party.

Trump can not be allowed to hold office again. His erratic behaviour, his incitements to divisiveness, to organised racists and to violent insurrection against the electoral process and the capitol is far too damaging to the country as a whole.
I think that impeachment should be the first step and that he and his conspirators, Rudy Giuliani as a prime example, should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity: A deliberate act, as part of a systematic campaign, that has caused human suffering and death on a large scale. He divided the country by blaming all economic and social problems on the Democrats, He said that the Pandemic was a hoax by the Dem's to make him look bad, "We've rounded the corner and it's going away", He claimed voter fraud weeks before voting began and now an insurrection because he didn't win the election. And some people are claiming that his rights are being violated ?

Yes. And I hope so. He did incite a riot and possibly gave comfort to rioters since requests for the National Guard was denied 6 times and he refused to send them.
G00GLE · 22-25, M
He should have been last year. He should still be now.
He won't be though. He should see his term to the end and then be arrested.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
Trump getting impeached for the second time is definitely the funniest possible outcome here, which means I fully support it.
Frank52 · 70-79, M
I think it would be the sign of a civilised, law abiding and respecting society if he were and it succeeded.
The argument against impeachment is that the Senate will probably still block it—and he’ll be out of office in just a couple of weeks anyway. The argument for it is, if successful it means he’d never be able to run again. And to me that makes it worth the effort, to have him finished politically.
Synyster · 51-55, M
No, the inauguration is in less than two weeks, it's a waste of time. He'll be gone after January 20th.

Let it go!
No, I can even see the benefits if it's a successful impeachment but there will be consequences as well. I feel like the cons outweigh the pros
@Mistakesmakeus The 'consequences' are apparently going to happen, according to the FBI, whether he is impeached or not. He believes what he said is appropriate. He wont resign and will not accept the 25th amendment if that is used.
@softspokenman Watch house vote live.

That'll be useless he has like 8 days left in office? The democrats should stop being dramatic.
Julien · 36-40, M
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether yes but I would retain all of his perks and be able to run again in 2024 if he doesn’t
@Julien I have no idea how that works, I'm not American.

I see no evidence to impeach him. The demorats are trying to find a way to silence him. 😂
@SW-User yeah, inciting a riot is just being a patriot I guess. You and people like you are a large part of the problem in this country
SevIsPamprinYouAlways · 56-60, F
@SW-User
I’m afraid the Dems, won’t let him exit, without seeing him behind bars.
@RemovedUsername1142231 He instigated an assault on the Capitol. Lives were lost. Anyone who claims to believe in “law and order” should be demanding his arrest.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
Can't we just hang the bastard instead ?

He should have been removed from office the first time already.
