Yes. It's something that must take place.
Despite the lack of time before the hand-over, no president should be permitted to get away with sedition or breaking the law. If he did it would set a precedent for increasing levels of corruption, insurrection, erosion of democracy, and decadence.
I expect that this time it would succeed because the Republican Party will lose a lot of political support if it doesn't reform and show that it supports the rule of law and democracy.
Sure, Trump's heartland will remain loyal to him, but on their own, they are not numerous enough to hold the whole party.
Trump can not be allowed to hold office again. His erratic behaviour, his incitements to divisiveness, to organised racists and to violent insurrection against the electoral process and the capitol is far too damaging to the country as a whole.
