MPs vote to NOT extend the no-deal Brexit deadline.

We Brits prefer to shoot ourselves in the head than to kill ourselves slowly with poison. 🤷

You are wrong we buy over two million cars from Germany , how do you think they won't suffer after losing a seventh of their cars ...that is billions of pounds ...we can buy cheaper around the world...I'm not arguing , you will see what happens we ain't got long... @SW-User

@Platinum I'm not a liar but I think I misunderstood. I would apologise for the mistake if you were a polite person but in this case, I really don't care.

I don't blame you for living in Spain. The EU laws on freedom of movement are a great thing and I don't blame you for taking advantage and living abroad.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 ...but you were obviously not an immigrant because that would be bad, right? 🤣

You not caring really hurts, I'm polite and the nicest person you can meet, when I'm talking to nice people not bullies..as far as Spain is concerned I loved it there and would still be there if my wife had not wanted to spend time with the grandkids...if I said anything offensive I apologise ....@Burnley123

What a shambles.

So last night a vote to ensure we don't leave with no deal.... Which the EU have to agree to BTW we can cancel it unilaterally but not extend it.

Vote to demand that the backstop is re-written.... Something that the EU have steadfastly said won't happen.

So... No deal still to me looks the likely outcome EU will dig heels in say the PM you took 18 months to negotiate the backstop and you backed it. We request extension they say no it's this deal or none....

@MartinII And I am sure a lot of Trade deals are already in the "prenegotiation" stage.. Just in case.

@whowasthatmaskedman this is a useful summary of where we'll be on 29th March

Essentially we're trying to get all 70 countries we have agreements with via the EU to accept us independently with same terms.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Longer this fiasco goes on i think May and co are trying to run the clock down, extend article 50, draw out an endless debate......belatedly, and ultimately throw it back to the country where only 20% of folk will bother to turn out for another referendum and hope they can carry a Remain outcome.

Gerald Kaufman finally has a Tory version of 'The longest suicide note in history'.
SW-User
@Picklebobble2 BTW I suspect the cost for brexit we spend internally will far out strip the 39 billion. Your argument is more fuel to actually scrap it and stay in the EU we'd be much better of in the short term
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@SW-User There are no 'good' endings to this in the short term at least. Basically because we have such ineffectual politicians here at home trying to deal with folk who can't afford to lose in the EU.
SW-User
@Picklebobble2 that is very true
Platinum · M
Withôut no deal, we have nothing to negotiate with, the government are idiots....
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
@Platinum Germany have said there would be , thousands of job losses straight away if no deal in Germany and billions lost , straight from the horse's mouth
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Platinum Absolutely right - though their current behaviour, or rhetoric, seems calculated to make no deal more likely.
Platinum · M
Unless the eu are liars, a no deal would be our only option...@MartinII

Brexiteers are the UKs equivalent, to Americas Trump supporters!

@AngieB Excellent summary of the Brexit arguments if I may say so. And there are certainly some SW members, though perhaps not all that many, who enjoy reading well-argued political posts like yours!
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
@Harriet03 get your facts rights nothing like trump supporters, where do you get this stupid information from
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@AngieB OK I'll respond.
Meanwhile if there's ever a bloated sacred cow that needs reforming from the ground up (not saying privatise or abolish it, just consider how it's funded because its frankly unsustainable, Brexit or no Brexit) -- it's the NHS. So from that point of view it's probably a good thing.
No way. We can't afford to privatise the NHS. It has its problems but that is due to underfunding. Its the most cost-effective health service of any major country.

The point I was making though is about the hypocrisy of the Brexit campaign. Farage, Cummings and the others promised more money on the bus for something that they would actually want to privatise.
free trade doesn't necessarily entail low tax (especially if you distinguish corporation and personal taxes), does it?
Not necessarily but it invariably does in practice. The ideology of free-market economics ties in both and if you have unregulated trade without protectionism then its advantageous to have low taxes to attract investment; or so the theory goes.

Not 5400 words this time.

So they should we had a date to leave , we leave on that date , shut a few remainer mps up
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
Shut that old prat yvette copper ,
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Nyloncapes Mate, I think she's younger than you. I'm not judging.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
@Burnley123 she looks older
MartinII · 70-79, M
A surprising triumph for the much-maligned Mrs May, I think.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
@Burnley123 do you honestly think this country could not survive out of the eu , think we are made of bit sterner stuff then people think
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Nyloncapes Yeah we'll survive. Some Brexit peopke use the blitz as a metaphor but we wouldn't vote for the blitz.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
@Burnley123 eu is finished run by arrogant people who wont listen to anybody else, yes no one wanted the blitz but got over that and got strong , and leaving eu can not even come close or to compare to the blitz,
