MPs vote to NOT extend the no-deal Brexit deadline.

We Brits prefer to shoot ourselves in the head than to kill ourselves slowly with poison. 🤷

You are wrong we buy over two million cars from Germany , how do you think they won't suffer after losing a seventh of their cars ...that is billions of pounds ...we can buy cheaper around the world...I'm not arguing , you will see what happens we ain't got long... @SW-User
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Platinum TheMercs and VWs will still come. Just like they come to America and Australia and South Africa. EU deals dont mean they cant sell elsewhere. The EU is not a Costco Supermarket. Its a market regulator.
Platinum · M
Not if we leave with no deal....they are the ones threatening to stop trading with us, not us...but this will not happen, nothing will really change....@whowasthatmaskedman
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Platinum Do you SERIOUSLY think that Britain leaving the EU will mean you cant buy a Mercedes, VW or BMW in Britain after?? Think carefully before you answer and re read whatever idiotsheet told you that..
Platinum · M
No I don't, read what I've said the eu and the remain scaremongers have said it...I've only said all along we will have a deal as its in everyone's interest...don't talk to me like that...@whowasthatmaskedman

@Platinum They will suffer but not as much as us, as I've said elsewhere.

There is no argument to say we are more powerful than Germany, let alone tge EU combined. It's just blind nationalism.
SW-User
@Platinum I've never heard a statement that trade will cease just be more difficult and imports more expensive due to tariffs and customs charges. But that is two way and will hurt us more than them that's my point. We export a larger percentage of our exports to the EU than the EU export to us.
SW-User
You said it Germany export 7% to us so they only potentially lose tha. We export 57% of our cars to the EU. Hence it must hurt us more than them.
Platinum · M
@Burnley123 this ain't nothing to do with powerful....we have a deficit of 123 billion each year and if you don't think they will be hurt more than us, there is no point us discussing it...Germany have stated that they will lose 1000s of jobs and it will cost them billions and except for the stupid scaremongers there is no proof we will get hurt.....
Platinum · M
@SW-User Germany have already said their economy will be damaged more than ours...we have a 123 billion deficit with the eu, it don't take brains to see who gets damaged most....
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Platinum I doubt they said that. Source please.
Platinum · M
It was in all the papers last week , unless you are calling me a liar...[image deleted]@Burnley123
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Platinum There is no quote in there to say that it would damage their economy more than ours.

Its just a headline anyway. No link to the report or even which paper it is.
SW-User
@Platinum if that is true you can say the entire UK car industry will tank too. Again we export 57% to them they export 7% to us. Who's worse off.?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 He's gonna cherry pick stats he wants to think matter and ignore the more important stats.
Platinum · M
@Burnley123 just because you believe bs that remainers say I'm wasting my time because if I showed you cast iron proof you would not believe it ..it's you that cherry pick ...
Platinum · M
@SW-User are you really as stupid as you sound...I've continually said we will get a deal but her deal keeps us in customs union and that ain't what the country voted for...but you keep believing any bs that your told and live in la la land...now go away
SW-User
@Platinum Well thanks for the abuse I continue to be polite.

I don't believe I'm stupid as my career track record would attest to.

I try to understand through my research using reputable, cited sources. I checked on fullfact.org for example. They calculate German imports to us is actually 14% of their exports. Not 7 BTW. That strengthens your position.... Still not 57% though I maybe stupid but 57 > 14 unless maths has altered recently.

I hope you're right about the deal but with 60 days to go and seemingly impasse in getting current deal through parliament and EU standing firm on renegotiation I don't have your faith in politicians.
Platinum · M
I don't care about your track record as you were not studying brexit....I don't have any faith in politicians , why do you keep assuming all these things about me....we will all end up with a bad deal half in half out with no say in Brussels ...if remain had won, I would have accepted the decision like I do in every election...if remain had accepted the result and we had gone back to the eu as a strong country we would have had a great deal by now...but no one expected nearly half the country to whine for over two years...@SW-User
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Platinum You haven't shown me cast iron proof. You've just shown some stats which pale in comparison to Nuno's stats. 40% is more than 9% but keep commenting anyway.
Platinum · M
Go away ...I never said I had cast iron facts I said if I had them you would still not believe them...there is no point arguing which you seem intent on, because you have been convinced by scaremongers and you won't budge...but for a cast iron fact we have a deficit of 123 billion with the eu and if you don't think it will hurt them more than us them there is something seriously wrong with your thinking....now go away ...we won't get anywhere...@Burnley123
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Platinum This is my post and I'll do as please in it. We have a deficit with the EU but much less than Germany's. We get benefits from that in terms of trade. Your understanding of economics is a simple zero sum game.
Platinum · M
@Burnley123 @Burnley123 your understanding of the most simple things are non existent ...your like a little kid " it's my ball " lol
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Platinum My point is that you can't tell me to get lost from my own post lol.

If you want the conversation to stop, you don't have to reply and you don't have to comment here.
SW-User
@Platinum I acknowledge the deficit in real terms of our trade with most of the EU there is only Ireland and va couple others we have a surplus.

However I come back to my belief that what matters is not the outright value but the percentage of your overall output.

Germany export 14% of their car output to us, big yes, second largest single market after USA. But UK export 57% of ours to the EU. So if it goes to hell in a handcart they are continuing to sell the other 86% domestically, throughout EU and beyond. 14% is a dent but that other 86% is uneffected. With us we've damaged 57% so have only 43% that is continuing undamaged. To me we have a greater risk to losing an industry than they have. I've not heard an argument that changes my opinion on that.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SW-User In addition, the fact that we import a lot from the EU also matters because there are British businesses which rely on imports.

The European businesses that export to us will take a hit but will be able to find alternative markets within the EU. Our exporters will not be able to do this easily.
