Photos of 1930s gangsters…

Much has been said about Benjamin “Bugsy" Siegel’s looks (and he was handsome in his day):

But he had nothing on Abraham "Pretty" Levine, a lesser-known
New York gangster…
(Mug shot)

Jewish gangsters, both.

@bijouxbroussard Neither of us is especially right or wrong about this - just our gut reactions. Agreeing to disagree works for me.
@tindrummer Me, too. And @Harmonium1923 may have further insights to share in the discussion. I honestly didn’t see anything wrong with his reply.

@tindrummer @bijouxbroussard I was just making what I thought was an interesting historical observation. Many people associate organized crime, unfairly, only with Italians. But it goes across all ethnicities. I've read a few interesting books on the early days of organized crime in the US, and and I hadn't realized the extent of the Jewish involvement, especially in the earlier days. As Bijoux says, I'm Jewish myself and wasn't intending to make a disparaging comment. Apologies if it came across that way.

😍 They don't make 'em like they used to.

@MrBlueGuy yeah he looks older than 18 haha .... beautiful eyes too 😁
@MrBlueGuy No, that was one of the photos taken during his time in Hollywood. In the late 30s. He was about 32.
@bijouxbroussard Still. You could have told me he was 57 and I'd be like..yeah looks about right.
Wow! That shows how we should never go on looks. *shudders*

The Jewish gangsters were before the Sicilian ones.
@DearAmbellina2113 Many times they worked together. Both of these men worked with the Italian Mafia.
Interesting post.... thank you.... and yes, both looked handsome .... 🌹🌹🤗

Odds are he got less pretty.
@Mamapolo2016 Sadly, that’s possible.
I love the attitude he gives off during his mugshot.
Thanks for sharing these pics❤️

both had sanpaku/bedroom eyes.

They all look very Middle Eastern or Mediterranean influenced to me. They remind me of historical Roman statues.

Its the droopy downturned eyes with superlong lashes. Middle Eastern people often look like they are wearing eyeliner. It makes the men seem " pretty".

If he sang to a DA I imagine a pair of cement overshoes and swimming with the fishes.

@bijouxbroussard I don’t know if they has witnesses protection programs then or he may have left the country. Now I’m curious.
@SageWanderer On one of the sources a woman poster commented that Levine had been her grandfather and the name changed to "Levin". The records noted that he was married and had children.

@bijouxbroussard I enjoy those kind of stories where people lead double lives. Now I wonder how and where he lived, did he have a job, and family? Wish I had time to do some research.

Surprised you didn't include this guy, yet I suppose he wasn't exactly good looking nor very well known.

George Clarence "Bugs" Moran
George Clarence "Bugs" Moran (/məˈrɑːn/; Adelard Leo Cunin; August 21, 1893 – February 25, 1957) was an American Chicago Prohibition-era gangster. He was incarcerated three times before his 21st birthday. Seven members of his gang were gunned down and killed in a warehouse in the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre of February 14, 1929, supposedly on the orders of his rival Al Capone.

Moran was born Adelard Cunin to French immigrant Jules Adelard Cunin and Marie Diana Gobeil, Canadian descendent, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He attended Cretin High School, a private Catholic school in Saint Paul, but he also joined a local juvenile gang and left school at age 18. He was later caught robbing a store and was sent to the state juvenile correctional facility, and was put in jail three times before he turned 21. He then fled to Chicago where he was caught trying to rob a warehouse, taking part in a horse-stealing ring, taking part in robbery involving the death of a police officer, and robbing a freight car, for which he received a variety of prison and jail sentences. @DeWayfarer
suppose he wasn't exactly good looking nor very well known.
That’s why I didn’t include him.
For his cooperation with the D.A. Pretty Levine likely ended up being part of a bridge support on the NY State thruway.
@Majorlatency Perhaps, but usually the folks in charge wanted to send a public message with "executions".
