Photos of 1930s gangsters…

Much has been said about Benjamin “Bugsy" Siegel’s looks (and he was handsome in his day):
But he had nothing on Abraham "Pretty" Levine, a lesser-known
New York gangster…

Jewish gangsters, both.
tindrummer · M
@Harmonium1923 why do you feel the need to point that out?
@tindrummer Were you offended ? He’s also Jewish.
tindrummer · M
@bijouxbroussard so's half my family
still doesn't seem necessary - why mention it?
@tindrummer Was there a reason not to ?
tindrummer · M
@bijouxbroussard Would it be ok if they were African-American and he pointed that out?
@tindrummer If he were African American and the person I was posting about was passe-blanc, for example ?
tindrummer · M
@bijouxbroussard right
or no pic were shown
@tindrummer If you were posting about someone whom I knew was passe-blanc and I said (as a point of info) that the person was black, would it bother you that I’d mentioned it ?
tindrummer · M
@bijouxbroussard Whether Jewish or black it seems unnecessary to point that out when talking about gangsters - imo.
@tindrummer So your concern was because they were bad guys ?
tindrummer · M
@bijouxbroussard Yes. Overreacting? Too sensitive?
I think the info would confirm some peoples' pre-concieved ideas about certain other people.
@tindrummer I suppose. I just took it as a point of information (which I already had).
And if someone black mentioned that a subject (where it wasn’t obvious) in a photo was black, when the point of the post was their attractiveness, I wouldn’t take offense.

@bijouxbroussard Neither of us is especially right or wrong about this - just our gut reactions. Agreeing to disagree works for me.
🤗
@tindrummer Me, too. And @Harmonium1923 may have further insights to share in the discussion. I honestly didn’t see anything wrong with his reply.

@tindrummer @bijouxbroussard I was just making what I thought was an interesting historical observation. Many people associate organized crime, unfairly, only with Italians. But it goes across all ethnicities. I've read a few interesting books on the early days of organized crime in the US, and and I hadn't realized the extent of the Jewish involvement, especially in the earlier days. As Bijoux says, I'm Jewish myself and wasn't intending to make a disparaging comment. Apologies if it came across that way.
