Different Clocks

Ok this has been bugging me for a while. My phone clock is two minutes ahead of my work laptop and TV. I thought they would all have the same time?
That's super weird. Every device on the internet can make use of Network Time Protocol (NTP) to tsync up its internal clock to within 10 or 20 milliseconds of the international time standards. The software that puts up a display may lag by a few video frames, but that error should be barely noticeable.

Do you have some special app that puts up a time display, or is the display built into the phone's system software?

@ElwoodBlues It's in the phone, it's a Samsung. Me too I thought they all dial into some atomic clock.
@JimboSaturn They should all dial into an NTP server that's 1 or 2 hops away from an atomic clock.

Presumably the GPS in the phone has its own internal clock, but to give you 50 feet of positional accuracy the internal GPS clock has to be within 50 nanoseconds of official GPS time. 1 foot per nanosec, so that internal GPS clock has to be synced mighty accurately.

At least it's good to know you identified the problem. You can probably download some NTP clock app from the play store.

Awe so your work is stealing two minutes a day of your time from you pay wise, and well the two-minute difference between cell and TV means you can prep for your favorite game or TV program without missing the start, this may not be helpful, but I tried.

@Virgo79 Oh, crap ask for one more week of paid vacation or overtime pay!

Are they all pointing to the same WiFi router? I suspect that the laptop and TV are pointing to the WiFi router, and the phone is getting its date/time info from your cell supplier.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Northwest Yes I believe that is so

That's so weird. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure the punch in clock thing at my former job was off too as well as the time on the register screen

Any digital services tend to introduce slight delays, so it come from that. Whereas your 'phone is self-contained, with an internal clock that once set to standard time, stays there.

Something like this was noted in the UK with the introduction of so-called "Digital Audio Broadcasts" (of radio programmes, needing an appropriate receiver). Although promulgated by wireless not cable, things like the Greenwich Time Signal "pips" were often received slightly late thanks to too much electronics between pip-generation and loudspeaker.

All of my electronics that are connected to the internet are synched within a couple of seconds
Gangstress · 41-45, F
That would annoy me but its the same on my phone clock to the computer clock
Strange

The clock by my side is an hour out! I tried to change it when the time changed but I failed, now I can never remember if it's an hour forward or an hour back! Fluck knows what time it actually is!

I'ma feckin clueless as usual and am waiting for the clocks to change yet again in order for it to be right.
I hate when that happens.
