Are they being insulting?

Without knowing the whole story, I would guess that this could either be a way of making you aware that you may be acting in a way that shows you are insecure and they are unable to deal with the depth of your emotions, and intensity of your behavior, or it could be a controlling measure to shut down behavior they don't like in you. In any event, it is judgmental behavior in the person saying you are too insecure. However, as I said, I don't know the whole story. Just know that you have a right to be who you are and feel however you feel without others telling you not to. 🤗

I get told this a lot as I find criticism hard to take and very upsetting. I do agree with them but I find it quite cold.
It probably depends on the context. For example, a loved one saying, "you’re too insecure—but if you don’t take chances you can’t succeed" is probably trying to be encouraging.

I think so. I had an ex girlfriend tell me that, but I think it was a cover up for what she was doing behind my back. In fact, I know it was without question.

Yes. There's ways to help people and questions you can ask for understanding instead of judging them then commenting.

Depends on who and why they are saying this to you.
If they are worried about you, that is one thing, but if it is said because of a reaction to their bad behavior, then it's most likely a put-down.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
It depends on how, when, and why they said it.
If they said it right after you made some self-defeating comment it is probably not meant to be insulting but helpful.

Depends on how they said it. We need to learn to say things with love.
AdmiralPrune · 41-45, M
No they could be telling you something helpful to reflect upon.
You're insecure
Don't know what for
You're turning heads when you walk through the door

Just searched the lyrics and they have repeated the chorus 5 times.

pdockal · 56-60, M
Depends who they are in your life
CelticRose · 36-40, F
@pdockal this was from a friend's mate, someone I'm getting to know but not sure if they are really my friend
pdockal · 56-60, M
@CelticRose

Then does it really matter their opinion ?
I rarely listen to people i don't know that well

@CelticRose 🤔suppose it is in the way it is expressed when said if it is meant as an obserservation or an insult
beetlebumdont · 26-30, F
Provocation or just a person on a spectrum
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
Would depend on the context of the rest of the conversation
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
Usually they are trying to get you to accept some kind of abuse they want to normalize.
class · F
@FoxyGoddess that's a yes, then.
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
@class I don't know that it's insulting so much as it is manipulative
RedBaron · M
Only if you’re really insecure. 🤣
CelticRose · 36-40, F
@RedBaron it wasn't a trick question
RedBaron · M
