You absolutely must read the Dune books first before judging any versions.
To tell the truth no movie versions of Dune can compare to the books. They had to cut out too much.
Having said all that, I must point out don't take the philosophy in the books too seriously. L. Ron Hubbard had ulterior motives for writing the whole darn series.
He was the founder of scientology. That was his reason for writing the whole series.
I'm a huge sci-fi fan in general. Probably have seen all of it if not read most of it. Even early stuff written in the 1950s.
Lost in space, My favorite Martian, even Gigantor cartoons. 😆

@caPnAhab you know, I must be going through Alzheimer's.
Please forgive the confusion. 😞
I don't know how I made that mistake.

@DeWayfarer no worries. I'm still learning about Dune so you had me second guessing myself for a bit.
But looking into Hubbard, Battlefield Earth looks sort of cool. Just from the cover alone

@caPnAhab it's extremely long. And sort of boring in my view. Only read it because it was one of the longest sci-fi books of it's time then.
I really loved to read back in the 80's. Anything sci-fi I read!

Dune is way better than star wars
@caPnAhab the Bene Gesserit (of which Paul’s mum is a part of and has taught him their ways at the direction of the Reverend Mother) make the Jedi supernatural stuff look weak almost and The Fremen are freocious warriors like Jedi on steroids. And house Atreides of which Paul was the heir had the finest warriors in all the galaxy in myriad weapon use and martial arts. Paul becomes the Muad'Dib of the Fremen people after he escapes to the planet Dune after his house is destroyed and those responsible try to hunt him down to eliminate his house for good. He is the one the fremen people of the planet Arrakis (Dune) believe is a prophecied messiah that will bring water to the wasteland planet of which they live. Paul Atreides of house Atreides is at the corner of all three of these worlds and truly makes any of the Jedi look like a pale comparison.

@JustGoneNow Ah yeah. I did get a brief rundown of this I think. Comparing Paul to Anakin as a sort of prophesied Messiah figure
@caPnAhab Paul is truly prophecized, where Anakin is like… maybe, maybe not.
Only one has the force
@Longpatrol Yup. And they are true balance. Power of the Sith but not beholden… and power of the Jedi, but not beholden. And their very own dark but cool powers. Their power of telekinesis, precognition, Force lightning, mind trick, possession, and healing… are unparalleled. They are Star Wars answer to the Bene Gesserit.
@Longpatrol sorry. I’m a hardcore fantasy and SciFi nerd. lol

I did this with my daughter over pagaism/witchcraft and sht, while she explained in detail all the different types of mancers there were.
There was a lot of suppressed eye rolling by both parties 😅
