My friend at work trying to convert me into a Dune nerd

And me trying to get her into Halo lore. Meanwhile, we mutually geek out over Star Wars

Dune is way better than star wars

@Madmonk well, I have yet to see how it is. But I've learned today there are a few comparisons to make
@caPnAhab i still like the older one best - i feel they got the gist if the story better.

But both are good.

Cant wait for the next one

@OogieBoogie I've seen Dune Part 1. Watched a bit of the 80s version, but adhd doesn't allow me to finish all in one sitting.

I'm looking forward seeing part two. I've also been recommended the books but I still have a pile of other books to read first

@Madmonk Dune is incredible (the book as the first movie back when was great but super hard to follow if you hadn’t already read the books.) but I’m not gonna say better just different. Book to book, dune wins no contest. But the Star Wars movies really broke in the fantasy genre to the greater collective of society in a way that Dune just hasn’t. And their lore and world have grown through the installents and books as it’s progressed, even as Dune had a more developed universe and lore right from the start. I’ll always have a part of me that loves Star Wars but literary wise Dune is the fictional heavyweight.

@OogieBoogie yes, I do lol. And that's sort of the way my friend describes them, sort of slow. But I do want to get into it.

@DarkHeaven I believe it. There is certain fiction who's lore is so dense, it's hard to penetrate. But it's worth it, once you figure it all out
@caPnAhab yep .
Its kinda wht i got rhe books.
My older friends had lent me the first one - i was like 14 ....it wasnt easy to read. Kinda put me off the others. The first movie had come out and i hoped there was gonna be more to follow....but.... didn't happen.

Plus....i was 14 - i kinda got a massive crush on Kyle wozzitsname and got sidetracked😏

I need to get back into them.
@caPnAhab the Bene Gesserit (of which Paul’s mum is a part of and has taught him their ways at the direction of the Reverend Mother) make the Jedi supernatural stuff look weak almost and The Fremen are freocious warriors like Jedi on steroids. And house Atreides of which Paul was the heir had the finest warriors in all the galaxy in myriad weapon use and martial arts. Paul becomes the Muad'Dib of the Fremen people after he escapes to the planet Dune after his house is destroyed and those responsible try to hunt him down to eliminate his house for good. He is the one the fremen people of the planet Arrakis (Dune) believe is a prophecied messiah that will bring water to the wasteland planet of which they live. Paul Atreides of house Atreides is at the corner of all three of these worlds and truly makes any of the Jedi look like a pale comparison.

@DarkHeaven Ah yeah. I did get a brief rundown of this I think. Comparing Paul to Anakin as a sort of prophesied Messiah figure
@caPnAhab Paul is truly prophecized, where Anakin is like… maybe, maybe not.
