Do you believe some choose to not change , because being miserable is such a good story?

I don’t think some know how to embrace being happy…they don’t trust it to the point it brings up emotions that they have no experience dealing with. Because of that they retreat to a place of comfort, which unfortunately can be the place of despair that’s been a home for them.

@acupaday
I can see that
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@acupaday you summed that up perfectly.
@acupaday Well said. Some people have been marinating in their brand of unhappiness for so long that it comes to feel like their entire identity. So to step away from it would feel at a minimum uncomfortable all the way up to terrifying and inconceivable.
akindheart · 61-69, F
maybe for some but for others it is because they don't see a way out. OR their emotions are clouding their judgment and common sense. That happened to me.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@akindheart
I understand that
bookerdana · M
Yes I do..rewards for wallowing in their problems is a big incentive,sadly
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@bookerdana
If you've had a bad experience and you're looking for help and will take advice or help given that's one thing, but to sit there and cry in the mud and won't even try to get up and that's repeated weekly? 🙄
bookerdana · M
@Justmeraeagain More like daily for some😑 They lack for nothing house,food,shelter but go on and on and on..bummer
Magenta · F
Yes, they may like the attention they get from having a victim mentality. It's a familiar place and they can get stuck or wallow in it.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Magenta
Have a sister like that.
She's begging for things on Facebook and going to get mad if no one responds.
My one sister tried to tell her contact somebody in private and ask if you need something she just doesn't get it.
Sevendays · M
I have some relatives who think that martyrdom is the preferred way of life.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Sevendays
I grew up in a somewhat negative household,but it gets to be a drag.
Just do what you need to do and get on with it...*sigh*
Nanori · F
I had a friend who was like that, she loved the attention she got because of it. She'd even fake being very I'll just to get into ER so she could take pictures and post them to her attention givers.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Nanori That sounds like a mental illness

[@Nanori That's too bad.
There may be some but nor many wish to stay in that place
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Shybutwilling2bfriends
I would think most would not want to,as well.
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Yep… without a doubt
exexec · 70-79, C
My wife's younger sister is like that. My wife and I cringe when we see that she is calling.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@exexec
Perhaps they don't know how, but I do understand.

You try to give advice,they asked for, it's ignored, you try to help them it's never enough
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Yes. Some people choose to stay the same.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Zonuss I have one sister who likes the attention from it,but in my kinder moments I think if she could get the attention a better way and knew how perhaps she would?
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
Yes I do. The same as some sick people don't want to get better. Their illness defines who they are. If they got better they would no longer get any attention.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Musicman Sad way to live.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@Justmeraeagain Yes it is. ☹
