Do you think swearing is bad?

I always feel so guilty if I use a swear word.

What do people think?

I swear but not something I make a habit of doing unless upset. I tend to say Mother Trucker and Son of a Biscuit.

I have friends at work that don't say em and I try to be respectful
LilPrincess · 46-50, F
@SW-User keep it up...and you will see just how accurate I will make that statement...😒

@LilPrincess

Dang! You don't miss a thing...
LilPrincess · 46-50, F
@SW-User Nope...sure don't
Rilyn · 31-35, F
I don't care if it is, if you can't deal with it walk away 🔱🤣
come2gether · 46-50, M
I think if we default to swearing, we are degrading our own ability to think and speak with words of meaning. If we spend the time to think of and use meaningful words, we not only edify others, we make ourselves a little bit smarter; and we actually improve our image in the subconscious of others.
@come2gether So your automatic response after stubbing your toe is gee wiz? 🙄
come2gether · 46-50, M
@NativePortlander1970 Nope, it's "Ouch!"
Matt85 · 36-40, M
I try not to swear
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
No, but there's time and place. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes downright repulsive.
Strongtea · 22-25, M
Ok yes, I do get your point, I have heard it in funny situations.@CrazyMusicLover
JustNik · 51-55, F
When it communicates something under the right circumstances, I don’t find it offensive. Dropping an F-bomb every third word at grandma’s funeral is just crass.
Strongtea · 22-25, M
Yep, I hear you. 👍😊@JustNik
@JustNik Unless dear old grandmama happened to be Roseanne Barr.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
depends on context; when intelligent/articulate people swear as a result of frustration and/or anger, it's perfectly understandable; In some cases, it even makes them more ingenuous/trustworthy (they're not hiding their feelings/displeasure like many)

when people do it all the time in normal conversation, it's just crass
exexec · 70-79, C
I don't swear, and I confess to having a bad first impression of anyone who swears. I can change that impression over time (e.g., my son-in-law).
Punches · 46-50, F
Used in whatever that word is - not too bad, long as it is not every other word.

SOME words though that are not "Standard profanity" though still "feel" like swear words.

Words like "Karen" or "Trump".
No I just feel like some words don’t suit me. Like it doesn’t roll off the tongue naturally lol
Really · 80-89, M
I have my own double standard about this; triple, maybe. 🥴
it gets the point across
Strongtea · 22-25, M
That’s true. @saragoodtimes
Iwillwait · M
I swear too much. 😒
People who swear a lot indicate to me a lack of wit and a shallow vocabulary pool.
Strongtea · 22-25, M
Yes, I think that too. @NoThanksLeon
PinkMoon · 26-30, F
I love swearing.
Mudkip · 31-35, M
I honesty don't care, and swear often lol
I think television has influenced some of that. Growing up, I never heard words like butt, or Hell on TV...words no one would give a 2nd thought today. Now on streaming, I hear the 7 seven words that used to be forbidden, all the time.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
In the right context there’s nothing wrong with it
Strongtea · 22-25, M
That’s fair enough, I do know what you mean.@Jeephikelove

I have always felt a bit of guilt using Jesus or God in a curse - - I don't know why 'cause I am a person of little or no faith.
Husher ·
I despise it an unuseful bad habit
Strongtea · 22-25, M
Yep! I totally agree. @Husher
Pinkstarburst · 51-55, F
I learned my language skills from Marines. If there isn’t a curse word in the sentence it isn’t a damn sentence.
Punches · 46-50, F
@Pinkstarburst Ya know, sentence structure IS important 😁
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
Shows ignorance on your part.

Yes I think swearing is fucking bad, and yet I do it constantly. Trying to stop it doesn't always help
Strongtea · 22-25, M
I do understand, everybody does it. I do it sometimes but I think it’s horrid.@Justafantasy
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
I feel relaxed

Only when it’s used in a bad context to insult someone
