So, this is how it feels to be a phone salesman, huh?

The title says it all. My boss invited me to help him with phone sales to gain more clients and increase our revenue. I'm two weeks in and I've never been hung up on as many times as I have until today. I've made fifteen calls, and most of those people picked up, only to hang up after just hearing me introduce myself.

We've been reaching out to leads my boss acquire three years ago, for context. This is quite the demotivator. So, this is what it's like to be on the receiving end of this, huh?

Well, I've had telemarketers hang up on ME. The ones who are selling solar panels are particularly bad. They are very polite up until the point when I tell them I no longer own my own home...and then...click!

Yep I turned down selling insurance selling job for that exact same reason.
I found that I just sell something that you had to try to sell.
Possibly an excellent an opportunity if I could just get through the initial bs

Times are crazy these days, so many scammers around. You cannot even trust it when someone calls and says they are police. I usually hang up after the first few words too. Safer that way. If I want to buy something I get it off Amazon or check BBB for contractors.

@JamesBugman Oh I get that.

Try insurance…I’ve had days of upwards of 750 outbound calls…yep.

I don't hang up on people.

I just don't pick up the phone with callers I don't recognize.
They generally don't leave messages.

If you call me, you’ll get more of the same. I hate telemarketers. I took out my home line cause that’s the only calls I got - everyone else called my cell. Got to be a hard way to make a living.

That is a soul destroying job. You have my sympathy...😷

What are you trying to sell?
And yes, being constantly hung up on is all part of the territory for cold calling phone sales.
GymRat584 · 36-40, M
@justanothername We don't run a gym. We travel to people's homes and offices.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@GymRat584 That’s ALWAYS going to be a tough sell.
People who really WANT to get fit and stay fit will join a gym.
The rest will buy those All in one home gym packages that you see on the shopping channel and use it as a clothes horse.

@Confined oh I bet you do!

One call I answered they said they wanted to speak to MR. xxxxxxx. I said HE'S DEAD!
pause.......Do you want to leave a message or what??! click.
GymRat584 · 36-40, M
@Confined A former neighbor did that out of frustration after multiple phone calls at home were stopping her and her mother from going to the mall to get a new radio for her 14th birthday at Sears (this was 1998). When her mother's credit card wasn't approved, the discovery was made that she was on Sears' Dead File. Turns out my neighbor unknowingly and angrily told the Sears credit card company that her mother was dead. Oops!
Well, what are you selling? Please say PHONES! LOL

Have you considered being a door to door vacuum cleaner salesman?
