Do you think there is life on other planets?

icedsky · 51-55, M
The universe we know of is far too vast. Statistically there should be lots of planets with life out there
Musicman · 61-69, M
@icedsky I agree with you.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Yes. Mathematically it would be impossible for life to not exist elsewhere.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Most probably yes. We now know of the existence of many small planets similar to our own, with all the ingredients necessary to support life.

But the chances of us observing life from afar is very remote. Earth has existed for most of its history without technology such as radio waves that could be detected elsewhere.
Tracos · 51-55, M
given the mindboggling number of galaxies, stars and planets statistically very likely, however given the equally mindboggling distances highly unlikely that we will have make contact let alone have a dialogue or personal meeting
Busybee333 · 31-35, F
How could there not be?
Just like on our planet, there must be more planets with favorable conditions for life, perhaps different from our understandings and expectations. We are not alone :)
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
Undoubtedly

@NativePortlander1970 I dunno about that. Certainly NDT has had an abundance of time on camera, but people like him, Brian Cox, Brian Greene, Amy Mainzer, and Michio Kaku are serving an amazing service in bringing science to the masses and keeping anyone who cares to know in an abundance of information on current happenings. My only issue with Tyson is simply that he dumbs down the science too much, treating us all like 5th graders in his delivery. To be fair, a good number of people probably need the information at that level to grasp it, but it still annoys me, lol.
@Zaphod42 Tyson cares more about his celebrity status than anything, his favorite self promoting tagline is America's favorite astrophysicist, a very narcissistic viewpoint, while Professor Sagan was very humble.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
@NativePortlander1970 A fair point
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
I'm sure there is.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
The universe is unfathomably huge. It would be absurd to think there weren't live on other planets.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
There's no reason to think we are the first and only ones in existence.

Yes universe is teeming over with life. Use teeming every chance I get thanks

LIFE is a very generic term for there could be many living creatures not visible to our eyes just like virus and bacteria.

But there are numerous Solar systems with each having an earth in it, making us just one of them.

there has to be
Fluffybull · F
I think it's rather arrogant to assume there isn't. I hope those on other planets are making a better job of things than we are on earth 😰
InquisitiveMind · 46-50, M
@Fluffybull I’m sure Mars is… 😉
InquisitiveMind · 46-50, M
@Fluffybull or maybe Venus is….
Not only is there life on other planettes but there are more types of life just on this planette than you can even imagine
InquisitiveMind · 46-50, M
@GoToTheCompound we agree
TexChik · F
That is very likely. Intelligent life , more advanced than humans .
@TexChik A sea slug is more advanced than humans these days.
InquisitiveMind · 46-50, M
I suspect there are aliens already on planet earth….
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
If you mean anywhere on a planet show me where in the universe, yes.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Odds are yes. Our problem is the universe is REALLY REALLY BIG
Yes …. Otherwise human would be too lonely …
Renaci · 36-40
Yes. But that doesn't mean human like intelligence like a star wars movie. I mean human like intelligence only evolved once out of the billions of creatures on Earth. So it seems more like a natural fluke or aberration. Not a goal that must occur.
MethDozer · M
Probably but I don't bother thinking about it or wondering about it since we really have no way of being definitive about it. It's kind of pointless at this point in time to form a yes or no opinion.
Plus when people say " Statistically there has to be". It is entirely true,. At least not in this exact moment. They could also all be post or pre life. Not does any of the life have to be an up thing more than some bacteria to fulfill any probability.

It's just kind of a waste of time to really think about since the chances we will interact or even be able to interact with any of it should it be there is exponentially low at this time. If it does exist, we aren't going to be able to see, feel, or hear it so for all purposes it might as well not exist as it pertains to our own existence. It can be fun to think about but that's about all it is right now.

We only have one single source of data for life's existence and one data point is kinda useless.
empanadas · 31-35, M
Yeah, numberwise there has to be planets with life on them. There's way too many planets in the universe. The real question is are they advance/intelligent life forms or not?
deadgerbil · 22-25
@empanadas they're SW users
empanadas · 31-35, M
@deadgerbil damn so not advanced and the lowest level of life
