i was drinking my morning coffee watching the news before the planes hit. and when they did they broke into "breaking news" i'll never forget it. i kinda thought something wasn't right when the first plane hit, and then when the second plane hit the feeling i had was indescribable. when i got to work i learned one of my colleagues took the day off. one of her best friends worked at one of the towers. she couldn't get a hold of her. after a day or so she learned her friend was able to get out as she was on the lower floors. i work near a major airport and it was eerie seeing all the planes being grounded.

In our office, we heard about the first plane, but when the second plane hit, we knew it was intentional. The secretary asked if I would lead the office in prayer, so we gathered in the conference room and I prayed for a group that included several Christian denominations, two Muslims, two Hindus, a Buddhist, two Jews, and a couple on non-religious types.

I was leaving for work. Luckily, for my family, that was the one morning that we did not have the tv on during the morning. Those that did saw in real time, those poor souls, jumping to their deaths.

That evening, I went to a friends who lives above LA. What completely unsettled me and has stayed with me until this day. Was the lack of anything in the sky. Nothing. All night long. No planes, helicopters. That and the silence.

Seeing congress, united, on the steps of the capitol. Holding hands, grieving. Never see that anomaly again.

I was getting ready for school and my mom was watching tv. My dad was a pilot. It was the most horrifying thing that i ever watched before. I remember being in tears for all the innocent people who lost their lives the terrible day.

I was at work. Initially, I heard a plane had struck the Sears Tower in Chicago.

I remember thinking it was an accident until the second plane hit. I was bewildered and sickened when I saw all the people on tv celebrating it.

I was sitting in Current Events class in school and my teacher had gone out and left us looking at news papers for a bit... I remember him coming back in with his eyes wide and teary and his face white as paper, turning on the TV in the classroom so we could see the news and kind of stuttering through trying to explain what was going on because he was so full of grief. It was a bit surreal.

I was thinking, Geezz the FBI did a lot of work on this one.

I was at the Shell Roadking truck stop in Calgary when it happened. I had a load of wood shavings for horse' stables in California. I wasn't able to cross the border that day. I couldn't believe what I saw on TV. I was shocked beyond belief.

I got the worst beating ever that day because I wasn’t where I was supposed to be. School was released due to the attack. I was in 6th grade history.

It was surreal, terrifying, and heart-wrenching all at the same time. I lost a friend in the second tower and one at the Pentagon. A family friend lost her daughter on Flight 93.

I was watching IMUS IN THE MORNING on TV when the news of the first plane strike broke. I watched everything else live for the rest of the day. One of the more dramatic things was sportscaster Warner Wolf called into the IMUS show and reported live -- he could see the Twin Towers from his apartment window. I spent the day switching between news broadcasts, saw the second plane hit.

The worst moment was probably a day or two later when I went outside and looked at my van in the driveway -- it was covered in a thin film of ash blown miles from NYC to Central New Jersey, and I realized that the ash wasn't just from burning buildings but from burning people. :'(

We accepted American passenger jets full of people into our tiny airport that fateful day - and maybe the next, I'm not sure - into Mount Hope (a suburb of Hamilton, Ontario).

I was in bed. My friend Brian called me and told me to turn on the news. I had a TV in my room, which at that time was considered the height of the luxury.

I had just started grade 2 and was just getting organized to start my very first 'writing' class where we were about to transition from printing to writing, while using capital letters and punctuation marks for the first time.

Then the news came and nobody wanted to talk about it to us, but we had to go home because the school suddenly closed.

My parents were not contacted and the school bus which I rode to school on was nowhere in sight, so I walked home to our farm at 9:30am Eastern Time which was about 5 miles of mostly gravel roads. When I walked in the door at lunch time, my mother freaked out because she couldn't figure out why I was home and how I got home by myself!

I was running late for work and saw the second plane hit from my seat on the express bus in Brooklyn on the way into Manhattan.

We got turned around at the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, and I was back home by 10:30 am.

Mom not wanting to understand what was going on. Clear across the country.

Not related, yet she passed away later that year. So I have other reasons to remember that year. RIP. 😞
