According to the current administration it's all our imagination. But they don't do their own grocery shopping or pay their own bills. And are clueless what living on a budget means.

Retired and just scraping by.

Well actually I'm hunting for a dental plan I can afford and have exhausted my long long list of research for one who can help me, with absolutely no help found. I will have to have one of my front teeth pulled and that really feels devastating. Everything is so high these days, no one can afford it
2ndtimeguy · 61-69, M
Retired but have good investments but talked to acouple in their 70s that cant survive on Social Security alone so both are still working. Dont know how families with kids can make it!!
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Retired in DFW. Everything is paid for. The world's capitol of energy has difficulty keeping the power on. But we eat well and have money left over at the end of the month. I leave my investments alone.
Honestly, my grown kids are doing OK too.

🤔..........I'm old and got all my stuff payed for...........How expensive is it now............Well in 1976, My roommate and I were living in a two bedroom apartment that was two blocks away from a private collage and our rent was $170 a month. So I only need to come up with $85 dollars for my monthly share of rent.........
JSul3 · 70-79
@cherokeepatti I still think price gouging is part of it.
Look at prices before, during, and after the pandemic. Who isn't hurting? The corporations, still making record profits....and slyly doing things like reducing the amount of toilet and paper towels on each roll, reducing the number of ounces on milk and other beverages, reducing the size of ice cream cartons, less ounces on chips, etc.

@cherokeepatti Banks won't pay you interest, but will gladly charge you high interest for their credit card.

Harris is indicating that she'll continue to enforce anti-trust and anti-monopoly laws. It's not really inflation it's price gauging
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@JonLosAngeles66 Let's hope she's serious and keeps Lina Khan running the FTC. Wall Street hates her. So she's doing things right.
HumanEarth · F
Oh, to about $10.00 a gallon and they ban all petroleum based engines. Its all on their agenda.
I rather be in my 70 and 90s and facing near death. Then live though the hell the government has planned for us.
You think the economy sucks now. Well, you heard of the "Great Depression" right. What's coming is going to make that look like hang nail.
Better get ready for the poorest world you have ever seen.
Not just in the USA, but worldwide this is planned for.

Up up and away like a beautiful balloon is how high they’ll go at the current rate. Even insurance (auto & home) has soared but especially auto insurance, it’s twice the rate as it was a few years ago and we shop around. There are some things I don’t even buy now due to inflation.
JSul3 · 70-79
@cherokeepatti Am in Texas. My auto insurance has doubled
Why?
Because the Abbott led government approved rate hikes twice for the insurance companies.
Inflation had zero to due with it.

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@JSul3 There have been rate hikes for insurance here in Oklahoma as well and for electricity rates. It’s ridiculous how many rate hikes and various fees to the electric bills after a new Corporation Commissioner took office. He needs to be investigated for corruption.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
If things don't change in the upcoming elections, prices are just going to keep getting higher.
JPWhoo · 36-40, M
@nudistsueaz Prices almost never go back down anyway, incomes just rise to help make things more affordable.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@JPWhoo so true and that just devaluates the curnsery even more.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@JPWhoo So your buying power is even less.
SDavis · 56-60, F
These companies are more interested in their financial gains than they are on the ability or inability of any individual to pay for the high prices.
Government mandating price control would simply result in a reduction of jobs - companies will lay off people, overwork those they have because they know they need the job, and do this in order to keep their financial gain at a certain level. They will file for bankruptcy close stores.
Is there a good and fair solution, no it isn't - simply because of the greed of people.
The government may actually be trying to help by not controlling prices because the outcome may be worse.

Rent control seems to be under the states.
President Biden has been pushing for federal law but you know Congress isn't going to pass it - Republican control..

Struggling but making it things got to get better soon
Shayshy96 · 26-30, F
@Justforfun65 but how? When is enough, enough?
Justforfun65 · 56-60, M
@Shayshy96 good question
JSul3 · 70-79
@Shayshy96 There is no law against price gouging.
The price of oil is trading around $80 per barrel.
Am in DFW. Yesterday I could fiil up for $2.99. Gas may have gone up today...but regardless, no president has control of oil which is a globally traded commodity. The US is setting records on oil production. We are 'drill baby drill.'
I am selective in my purchases. I use coupons. I buy store brands many times over big name brands.

Well if the dems 'win' again... buckle up - you ain't seen/felt nothin' yet! 💸🩸🫰🏻

@lpthehermit ikr??? Cops, bankers, hedge funds, investors, wall street. The list is endless
4meAndyou · F
@lpthehermit Like toilet paper and paper towels?
4meAndyou · F
I just eat a lot less. And I eat a lot of soup, and beans.
Jake966 · 56-60, M
If the dems retain control prices will continue to go up
Spoiledbrat · F
This why I didn't want minimum wage to go up. It actually lowered my wages.

And yes @JSul3

Spoiledbrat · F
@JSul3 I want people in poverty to stop taking my money and look for a better paying job. That's what I had to do.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
I spend $100 a week on gas.
Shayshy96 · 26-30, F
@SinlessOnslaught is that just for work? I’m lucky my job is walking distance
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@Shayshy96 Nah tbh I drive too much. But not $100 damn dollars too much. 😆
oldercanuck1 · 70-79, M
You are lucky you are where you are up here they are accessing our value so they can tax that as well ,, as for the high cost of things our leaders do not care as they are making way to much and do not pay most of what they want or need ,,
Elessar · 26-30, M
Trump (and not just him) gifted ~1 trillion dollars to wealthy people and corporations in 2020. Now we're paying for it.
Practical economy lesson about why the central banks shouldn't print and handout money like crazy.

Well according to most media outlets Biden/Harrisnomics are helping everyone have a better life. After all that mean old Trump had everyone living in poverty..... oh wait.
JPWhoo · 36-40, M
Why not make polyandry (a woman with multiple husbands) legal too?
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@JSul3 Or rural Arizona? Mormon extremists have their Old Testament style harems with taxpayers subsidising their families.
NoGamesTolerated · F
How high are they going to go? The Bible speaks of it costing a day’s wages to buy bread in revelation. Don’t look for prices of food to go down.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Drastically downsized my house. I live in a lil hamlet with a cheap house and it makes shit a lot easier.
JSul3 · 70-79
Filled up my car w/regular unleaded for $1.45 at DFW Kroger. Gas is $2.45...used my $1 discount = $1.45.

Think they are high now ? Hide your money if the dynamic duo get in.
bijouxbroussard · F
@jackson55 Protect any girls and women in your families if Trump and JD Vance get in. 😞
justanothername · 51-55, M
Hopefully not too much. Inflation is a global thing right now, not just the US.
I agree x I’ve kept mine the same so why carnt everyone else lol

@basilfawlty89 That is what the bird flu did when it wiped out thousands of egg laying hens.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@JSul3 I know, but they still didn't adjust for prices. Over here the standard of living for the poor is so bad, they're now starting to consider a UBI.
I support that and the NHI they want to implement, because medical here is also frightfully expensive.
