How are you keeping up with inflation?

Indexed incomes...😷
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Hanginginthere These were the old style Public servant pensions. Indexed pension for life and with a spouse benefit if I go first. Probably only available to Politicians these days. Mine started 0ver 30 years ago..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman all i have going for me is a 401k with $10k and a tiny bit in an investing account

@Hanginginthere OK. Now you are in my territory. (Economics) You have time on your side, so here is the safe and sure strategy. ETFs with a solid, low cost fund,(Look at Vanguard if they are in your local market and compare) split into three. Shares, property and cash. (How much of each depends on the risk that lets you never worry about it.) and opt for dividend reinvestment on each fund. Now take 10% of your income and direct it into those three funds and forget it for ten years..Then check and see how you are going and possibly rebalance the amount, depending on the risk you are comfortable with then. This strategy will work for 90% of wage earners and give them a comfortable retirement with minimal tweaking for local conditions..😷

We are not. Fortunately the car paid off last month and my wife has a phone appointment to get signed up for Social Security on the 24th. Hopefully this will help.

Buy not raising my prices
Hanginginthere · 31-35, M
@MarineBob cant be that simple

I give my money to wealthy people and then there is a trickle down effect - that not only benefits me but also my community. Just goofing around. Inflation is costing me more ever month and soon I will have to be dipping into my savings to eat well. Cheers!

@whowasthatmaskedman

Have you ever estimated how much, say, $100 you earn is taxed as it gets circulated? First you have to pay income tax. If you buy something with the remainder, there is sales tax. Part of what the price you pay is the merchant's profit, which is taxed again. Then he has to pay the help's salaries, which are taxed again, and the rent, the landlord's profit of which is taxed again, and the wholesaler's profit on the amount that the merchant paid for the item you bought, and the manufacturer's profit, and the raw materials provider's profit, and the salaries of all those involved, are taxed again. I think in some countries, it amounts to about 60%, if we also include property taxes.

That’s a lot of taxation. @Thinkerbell

@Thinkerbell OK. We dont have property taxes on the primary residence. since our sales tax is national (and distributed to the states under a formula not related to population) we
could say the more populated states subsidize the less populated. So we share that. Our tax comes out just a smidge less than yours, but there are two stand out differences. First, we have a total population of 25 million taking up a land mass similar to the main section of the US, with all the infrastructure that entails in roads, utilities, communications and services like law enforcement.. But what we dont have is a defence budget larger than that of the next 9 highest spending nations..We simply dont project our might globally (unless the US asks us to help make the whole thing look legit by being international..) So we can spend money on health care, and subsidizing Tertiery education for our citizens.😷

I'm not. I'm having to take some drastic measures. Last month I had to cook chicken that was meant for ME, grind it up, and feed it to my cat. Otherwise he would have gone for 10 days without cat food.

But I think I've got most of it under control now. 😉
hunkalove · 61-69, M
I've stopped eating.
Hanginginthere · 31-35, M

Tbh working in engineering has it perks
But nevertheless, i do feel inflation is too high considering wages are the same atm
Everythings going up yet wages/salary remain the same
It hasn't affected me much but i think my neighbors might have it rough with their new rent being higher 😬
Inflation is at 3%.
That is low.
You could be talking about short term interest rates.
Hanginginthere · 31-35, M
@Aliveshock well go with that sure
I was a klepto before the economy went down. If I need something, I will simply steal it. 👌
Unquestioned · 70-79, M
Not easily, I have had to cut down on my spending. My pension does not keep up with inflation, the cost of living just keeps rising. Unfortunately I can only see it getting worse, not just for me but for many people all over the world.
