Yeah...the resources he wasted, the dent in the perception of legitimate hate crimes, the embarrassment to my own community...he needs to not only compensate monetarily, he needs to spend some time behind bars. Just enough to think about his actions and the people affected.

@Carla His career is definitely shot after this. I’m not sure what he hoped to accomplish.
Carla · 61-69, F
@bijouxbroussard attention.

SW-User
He is literally his own worst enemy
Ynotjenn · F
What was he thinking??! Does he not realize how much damage this does? It gives valid talking points to idiots
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
@Rutterman I think his TV Show Empire was cancelled because of him it was popular and one of the most Watched TV Dramas
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
@JohnOinger it was being canceled way before this incident happened
Stanapplesauce · 26-30, M
At least he can rest easy knowing the guy who planned his attack was convicted
Keeper · M
Hollywood very rarely does time. Different set of rules for those fine folk.
My guess - probation, fine and community service.
My guess - probation, fine and community service.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Keeper Not just in Hollywood. Considering that there was no loss of life, probation, a huge fine and community service sounds reasonable. He tanked his own career.
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
He probably get probation and a fine he won’t spend time in jail. This is his first offense. At the sentencing the judge will give Jesse a stern message
Peaches · F
I was following that story, 🤔 but I just don't get WHY he did it?
bijouxbroussard · F
@Peaches I’m hearing that he was trying to get some attention to somehow boost his career. A singularly stupid way of going about it. He had to know he’d be found out. And now, even if he doesn’t go to jail, his name is pretty much poison in the industry.
Peaches · F
@bijouxbroussard Well, 🤨 he deserves it!
Mamapolo2016 · F
The brothers he allegedly paid to attack him have sued him? How does that work?
bijouxbroussard · F
@Mamapolo2016 They sued his lawyers for defamation.
Mamapolo2016 · F
@bijouxbroussard If that gets to be a trend, it'll be a real mess.
As far as Smollett is concerned, I think he should be assessed damages for the investigation costs for the fake crime - but he's really done enough damage to himself...why support him in prison?

bijouxbroussard · F
@Mamapolo2016 I agree. A hefty fine would be in order. I’m not sure prison would be. There was no loss of life.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
When someone is attacked the cops and much of the press will remember this. He did this to himself for what?
craig7 · 70-79, M
Apart from anything else,Smollett's deplorable course of action gravely dishonours and disrespects the memory of the countless real victims of racial injustice and violence, right down through the years.
bijouxbroussard · F
@craig7 It does indeed, no question about that.
Pfuzylogic · M
With five felonies he will be in “the system” forever.
Graylight · 51-55, F
Well, it was stupid. That there's no arguing with. But I have to wonder what's happening inside a man already craving the attention of stage lights and still compelled to play the victim front and center for the world. That typically speaks to an imbalance somewhere in the mind.
That doesn't excuse his actions or protect him from penalty, but understanding him and helping him understand himself might go a long way in making sure this happens less frequently in the future.

I can see this ending in suicide attempts leading to the death penalty. Which actually does happen in some places.
I mean how tf do you hate crime yourself? And isn't a suicide attempt technically attempted murder? See the slope I'm building:/

Thank you, Harry Reasoner.
bijouxbroussard · F
@RedBaron Harry Reasoner’s been gone since 1991. But good on you for revealing that you’re “ten years older than baseball”—like some of the rest of us. 🤫
RedBaron · M
@bijouxbroussard HBO Max has a great series on 1968. I was watching his coverage of the election and Apollo 7 yesterday!
nonsensiclesnail · F
Really stupid thing to do, yet I feel sorry for him. He made such horrible choices. How could he think this would work out?
Northwest · M
They should throw the book at him.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Tremendously selfish act. He couldn't have cared less how this could impact the whole conversation about hate crimes and racial tension and the victims thereof. He did a huge disservice and it's sickening to think that he did it to further himself and his career. And what a terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE job he did faking it all and then doubling down on it. Hard to believe there isn't some real Dunning-Kruger effect here, as I grapple with either his total cluelessness or his contempt for our intelligence.
bijouxbroussard · F
@uncalled4 I agree that he wasn’t looking at the big picture, by any means. He hadn’t fully thought out what it would mean for him when he was found out—and he had to know he would be, eventually. His career, his name and reputation are trash now.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard Remember when he took the stage at the Troubadour after that? He told his emotionally-charged "story", and then told people to be "blacker" and "gayer" or some such? Geez, the guy has huge mental issues. I didn't follow it that closely--were black or LGBTQ groups saying anything about this? He really set them back, and they cannot have been pleased.
bijouxbroussard · F
@uncalled4 No, and most are making their statement by not commenting. In the beginning some people were offering support, but even then I remember my brother saying, "something about this doesn’t sound right…" and I decided to wait and see.

SW-User
What a loser.
Why throw it all away like that?
Why throw it all away like that?
bijouxbroussard · F
@SW-User Definitely a question. Did he really think he wouldn’t be found out ? 😳
Doomflower · 41-45, M
I only care enough to laugh at him. What an idiot.
BabyLonia · F
Such a fool....not sure he deserves prison though
bijouxbroussard · F
@BabyLonia Yes…we just let someone go who actually caused the deaths of two people. As stupid as this was, no one lost their lives because of it.
BabyLonia · F
@bijouxbroussard no, and he has probably lost his career and will always have thos criminal record.
RocktheHouse · M
He will enjoy it in prison with Fleece Johnson.
bijouxbroussard · F
@RocktheHouse No idea who that is.
MethDozer · M
I hope it's pretty severe to be honest.
bijouxbroussard · F
@MethDozer I don’t. As idiotic as this was, no one lost their lives because of it. His career is toast, and I could see him being fined, but he’s not a violent criminal.
MethDozer · M
@bijouxbroussard It's still pretty severe though. Violence isn't a requirement for damage and severity. IDK, that kind of stuff cannot be tolerated. Him doing that takes credibility from actual victims in the public eye.
bijouxbroussard · F
@MethDozer You’re right, and that’s the first thing I thought when it all came out. He should definitely face a fine that covers all the money wasted investigating a false report.
