When you were 10, did you think you would ever concern yourself with things of a political nature? Or spend time watching the News?

DrWatson · 70-79, M
I was 10 years old during the Cuban missile crisis.

I had a vague sense of what was going on. I was not interested in watching TV news, but I did have an inkling that world events could be important.
@DrWatson read about the missile crisis in US history in high school

At that age I was only concerned with getting food and water and staying away from the house my biologic father. After he would pass out I would sneak food if I could . Nothing beyond my own existence .

When I was 10, I was vaguely aware of Politics - it was the era of the Profumo/Christine Keeler scandal in England - we weren't quite sure what a prostitute did but knew it was rude. It was also the year that JFK was assassinated and I remember being glued to the TV news.

I sometimes watched the news with my parents so I did hear talk about third world war and the problems between USA and USSR. but I didn’t understand any of it

I was just concerned about the news finishing so I could watch whatever I wanted
Luckylu · 61-69, F
I don’t remember thinking about it much. It was part of our every day life and since my parents didn’t discuss the news and were not interactive in ensuring we knew and understood what was going on in the world, I often based my opinions on what was portrayed in the news. Consequently my outlook on humanity and where the world was heading was skewed by the news and the end of times preaching in church. As I grew older and found myself battling depression I decided to avoid the news due to its focus upon negativity. I hear it anyway from people mentioning it and if I feel it is important then I do research to find the real story.

I was wiser than now … therefore, no

International affairs and how our government dealt with them directly impacted on when and where my parents were deployed on military service. For me, and most of the other girls at my boarding school, politics was intensely personal.

I was too much into Pokemon during that time....I think Bush was the starting President during that time but I never knew what was going on back then.

And then we got 9/11 and then a Pointless war from our view.
when I was 10 all I ever concerned myself with was would Billy next door have cooties all his life
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@saragoodtimes and does Billy still have cooties?
@SpudMuffin haven't seen him in years
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M

I wasn't really thinking about the news at that point. I had no concept of politics. I already had an interest in history and historical events but my mom deliberately didn't let us watch the news at that age.
